Sadly no, I busted myself up skiing (clavicle, separated shoulder and MCL) so am focusing on recovering my strength and range of motion. Turns out I'm no longer made of rubber - getting old sucks :laughing

Going to just do track days again this yer but will run CODE Race again at Streets of Willows later in the year.

That sucks Steve...but good to hear you're on the mend.

If you're going to do it, Go Big! :laughing

It sounds like it must have been a spectacular crash! My biggest was when a buddy of mine jumped at the same time as me while night skiing (in our 20's) and our paths happened to be an X and we met in the middle in the air. :ride

Sounds like you went through some degree of what Dave Mira went through, but came out the other side.

Good on you to work though it and get your life back! :thumbup

Thank you. Dave was a gigantic pioneer in BMX, and suffered years of multiple head injuries throughout the years.

I get invited the the Old School BMX reunion every year, it's for all the old BMX'ers who rode in the 80's and early 90's to get together - along with all the famous pioneers of the sport. The year Dave passed away, they set up a paint area where we all lined up to paint our pedals gold, like Dave did at the X-Games.

It was super sad, but he touched so many lives. No money in alternative sports, so not much research in TBI.

Back on topic, I saw this article which totally pertains to what I am talking about here: Why Wearing Racing Leathers on Public Roads May be a Bad Idea

Hey Dion :wave Sounds like you have the itch to get back out to the mini track once again, my friend. Now-a-days, we have 3 to choose from; Stockton, Dixon, and Sonoma.

this ol' :afm199 fart (50+) is still doing it :ride

Get yourself a tard, or if you prefer something with 17" wheels; R3, Ninja 250 / 300, or a KTM 390?

Yooooo! Nah, man. I think I'm done with track days, trailing bikes, constant wrenching, loading up for an all day affair, etc. - You know I've been there and done that and I totally know the benefit, but it's just not my thing anymore :) That aspect of motorcycles is not quite in line with what I want out of motorcycle riding anymore.

Dude, I used to ride my SuperMoto in cement skateparks and ride off loading docks, and never passed a speed bump I didn't catch air off. That dude is looooong gone. I guess since I have BMX, that stuff is reserved for trick riding.

Good on you. As we get older, we have to recognize when it's time to step aside and let younger guys/gals have their turn.

4 years ago I was training my hurdlers and had run some HS height hurdles (39") and got over-ambitious and put them up to College/pro height (42"), long story short, got too close to the second one and rode it down to an awkward landing, my already bum knee (4 surgeries prior) took some damage and was even more bum for the next 9 months. Lesson learned.

Yeah, sometimes it's tough to admit that you're well passed your prime and still feel like you've got another race/trick/etc in you. :laughing

What's crazy is I'm actually a better BMX rider that I ever was. I have way more tricks and creativity now in my 40's than I did in my insane teenage years.

There are a few things I won't do - I won't grind a handrail. I like my teeth inside my head.

Interesting post. I was doing SM early on before there was a BARF SM board. I believe we rode together on a SF SM ride i organized. (Do you remember jumping in Northbeach?)

I too have totally chilled out. Still have the FZR400. But the WR450SM is gone. Now replaced with a ktm 1090R.

At 55 years old, I'm looking for longevity. Rosso little bit of THill asphalt.
