K@TT Novice School 5/30-31

Last week Wendy and I attended Keigwin's Novice School for the second time. We attended this same school last year too. I was at first a little hesitant in going, as I'm definitely not a novice to the track. The first day, I endured a few jokes from the instructors because I was the last person they expected to be there.

However, we both found new things to work on and learned much from the one-on-one instruction sessions both times we took this school. We both thought that the instruction, while very good before, improved even more this time around. There were a few questions regarding some of the more advanced techniques like trail-braking, which was answered precisely yet not in too much detail. It was also discouraged for this school despite some of the talented students there.

I feel that the added classroom session on bike modifications was outstanding. It was good that Jeff Viets co-presented with Lance the instruction for that session, but even better that Zip was there to answer some of the questions. It definitely answered questions that a lot of new riders ask about modifying their bike.

I highly recommend Keigwin's Novice School to anyone thinking about getting on the track or even those with a lot of track experience. It seemed that everyone had fun and learned a lot, many showed dramatic improvements on the second day.

Special thanks to Paul, who taught me the differences between litre bikes and 2-strokes and how to go faster with each. And to Simon who towed my R1 up there. :thumbup

Wow, that must be some school. You're both looking pretty good for a pair of 'novices' :teeth

You do good work Simon, I don't care what everyone else says, although I noticed you negleted to give me any credit for that 2 second drop in your times in your race report;)

You're not really looking for a job are you kevo?:laughing

I'd be there in a heartbeat if I could get the time off. Lance and his crew put on a top notch event.

:wtf What's a job? :laughing

All the instructors do good work! I mostly worked with Paul because of his familiarity with GP bikes and he has the G1K. Last year I worked with Phil and Gary. Just pitting next to Simon made me faster! :angel

I can't recommend Lance's novice school highly enough for any level of rider :thumbup

I really liked the talk by Eric and Doug about passing, I think a lot of the newer guys got a lot out of that.

Everything as usual was well put together, very informative, friendly and encouraging!!!

Thanks Eric for the one on one, sorry you got the short straw :laughing

Oh, and some guy called Simon thought he was teaching me to turn right, I have no idea who he is :confused :twofinger

It's encouraging to know that even experienced track riders like Wendy and Kevyn can get a lot out of a "Novice School."

It also shows they're not big-headed and ego-driven like many track riders. I know a lot of people who would NOT go to this school simply because the word "Novice" is included.

Count me in as another big :thumbup for the Keigwins Novice School. This was my second trip there and it was a blast. It was a great chance to work on some fundamental things I was really hoping to focus on after a long low-miles winter. Now I've got a good set of things to work on for a while until they become second nature and as smooth as I can get 'em. I signed up for two more days right after I got back home.

Big ups: Simon's a class-act instructor. Thanks for the great help, man. :thumbup I have (amazingly) ruled out excessive masturbation as the source of the weird cramp in my right hand, so I'm back to being a happy man. :shhh

Eric, great talk on passing -- some of the kids were getting a little feisty out there and I think that helped out. :thumbup

Hey, anyone figure out what was up with Craig on the side of the 505?

I came away from the school with even more things to think about and work on outside of the class than after my first trip. I was writing away in my book for a couple days afterwards. Hell yeah, that's what I went for. I recommend it to anyone looking to learn ... like Lance said, if you wanna showboat, take it to the friggin' street. ;)

Wendy, Kevo, thanks for being pit pals out there. 'Twas good times! Hopefully Simon hasn't noticed the fiddling we did to the bike that actually deserved the shade. Next time I'll bring the tiki torches.

And an extra thanks to His Timness for piloting the WRX of Doom (tm). I'll return the favor someday when I get the hitch mounted up, mang. :D

Here's my pic of fun times in T10 (my favorite, just above 14-15 and 5-5a) ... ten months ago, my best riding was more erratic and slower than the sit-bolt-upright-and-chill *sighting laps* this time around. I give the Novice School a lot of credit for that! Thanks ya'll!

Thanks for the feedback, hopefully they remember it past the school and further on down teh year.

Craig bought a new M3 and apparently got a flat, i tried to stop and he said he had it handled. Turned out the cool car came with a flat spare tire. A few tries at patching the tire and several tow truck rides later, he finally made it home, in his own words" It took me 25 hours, but I finally made it home from T-hill!"

Eric's seminar was outstanding!

Bill was at the last novice school Wendy and attended too.

We had fun Bill and Tim!

Wendy and I stopped for CRa1g. He told me AAA was on their way. So we left.
