JC Whitney Travel Trunk -- Product Review

I wanted a cheap, lockable topcase for my ninja 250 last year. After getting some reccomendations from ninja250.org I picked up the JC Whitney Travel Trunk.

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/...tom-0/p-2002510/N-111+10211+600002996/c-10111

I mounted it on the grab bar of the ninja and used it for about 5 months. I found the grab rail didn't offer enough stability so I removed it and put it in a closet.

When I picked up the pile o seca I found the Seca's grab rail was perfectly made for the topcase.

It will fit a helmet and is great for modest grocery runs. It is fairly secure, but I wouldn't leave it overnight. It also is fairly water proof, with no water getting in during 6 rain rides.

All in all a cheap alternative to GIVI. I have attached pictures:

Looks very interesting, I may have to get one for my Triumph until I get the money for the full Givi set (or buy the Caponord). Do you have any pictures of the from the rear/front/corner on and/or open? The images on the ordering page are pretty small...

Also, have any problems with it buffeting/moving at speed?

I will post up some pics of the other views tonight.

I don't have any issues with buffeting at speed, when I had it on the ninja I had a slight bit of headshake when full loaded. The Seca is rock solid even with a 12 pack of cans in the case. Nothing like having the 52 liter Givi case fully loaded on the nighthawk 250(bob and weave the whole way:laughing )

If you want to stop by and take a look, shoot me a PM. It is a bit of a hike from Sunnyvale, but may be worth it to see if the brackets will fit you bike. You could also fabricate or use fairly common hardware with the plate to connect to almost anything if need be.

Thanks for the link. Triumph wants $600 for the top box for my RS. Being that I already have the rear rack, it doesn't look like it would be a problem to mount.

saved me $540

Thanks meterman. I ordered that box and it fit great. I just couldn't bring myself to pay $600 for the "official" Triumph top box and have been looking for an alternative for (no lie) years. As you can see in the pic, it looks great on the bike. It does need some stickers though. WE NEED A PRODUCT REVIEW FORUM.

Where the heck does the pics go when you edit your post? Ah well, here's another. :teeth The company who makes this trunk is ST Lun out of Taiwan and although they don't have a web page, they're listed in a directory for making MC accessories and parts. My wife said that in China there are many different gizmos on the MC's, scooters, and bicycles. If there is a need, the asian market will fill it. I'm sure that if I don't abuse this trunk, it will last for some time.
