Is this guy right or wrong about Austin, TX?

Fear me!
+1 grew up in the Midwest for most of my childhood. Also lived in Maryland, Atlanta and Michigan. Weather is a bigger deal/dealbreaker than ppl realize if they grew up in San Diego or the bay area their entire life. All y'all have no idea what it's like to live through only 2 seasons, hot+humid and cold+wet. maybe 1 week of nice spring-ish weather in those 365 days :laughing

went to Houston years ago for a wedding...in March. never again, so humid wtf.

I'm still acclimating to the humid summers here. The heat isn't so bad, maybe in the mid 90's, but the humidity gets pretty high. Last summer, my first full summer here, I got heat exhaustion 3 times. No fun.

It's different for sure. The snow is fine because where I live has good infrastructure for it. After 40 years living in northern california, it's nice to be able to experience seasons.

Lived in Miami for 9 years moving here in 1984.

Our house had a/c only in the bedroom.

I loved it but, sadly, my wife hated it so we left.

Still love Miami; the 4 months of hot/humid weather were saved by eight months of excellent weather though.

Did leave before Andrew though, unlike my relatives.

My experience in Austin is limited to a super fun 4-day trip that included Austin City Limits. I agree that most people were super friendly, and the festival was indeed one of the best - plenty of room to see whatever band you wanted, no huge lines for food or beer, better prices, etc. We also very much enjoyed the bars and restaurants we checked out, particularly one boozy afternoon spent rolling around the City on Jump bikes. Have to admit we definitely spent some time daydreaming about what it would be like to move there, but of course the reality of day-to-day life would be a lot different.

Anyway this guy sounds like an annoying tool who won't be happy anywhere. Unless maybe he is in one place and his 7 kids are somewhere else. :)

driving in the snow on a daily basis is a big PITA. dunno how I survived back when I was 16 yrs old and still learning. On more than one occasion my trusty '88 civic hatchback w/ no power steering would slide slowly at 5mph across side streets near my home. My dear friend "curb" would sometimes greet me with a cold and firm hello :laughing

He's dead wrong. Austin is an amazing place, and if you're rich its really nice. And it's home to COTA, fuckin-a perfect, except no surf.

Took a photo from the tallest point in Austin in March looking down at one of the rich areas.

Very nice.

I grew up in Western PA and my in-laws are in Rochester and Buffalo. This June we will most likely be moving to Cleveland for family reasons. I have been gone for almost 20 years now. Since I left, I have lived in FL for 9 years, SC for 4 years, and CA for almost 7. I am excited to have all four seasons again. I hated FL on Christmas day when it was 80 deg, I also hated it in SC when the heat index reached 123. I know I will never have weather like I have in Alameda ever again. I appreciate it and I will miss it. However, I love the fall, some of the winter, and the excitement of spring. Summer is hot and sticky but at least I will have AC.

Cle-Pit-Buf all revitalized their cities in the last 25 years so I am excited to explore and relearn the cities and areas. Moving around the country is all about managing your expectations and going in with eyes wide open.

When I moved here this bumper sticker was very popular in the early 80s.

Keep California Beautiful, when you leave, take someone else with you.

Moved here from SE Washington almost 20 years ago. Not going to leave, the grass is greener here.

Austin is a great venue to enjoy as a MotoGP fan.
Dug the City, the music, the food, the museum etc.
People seemed nice in general but we were spending coin so.. :dunno

OG Barfer Chuci :chuci moved there long ago.
He met us one year.

I am a California boy, born and bred.. doubt I will ever leave even though the taxes a costs to be here makes me think otherwise for a minute. :laughing

What gets me is people moving to a place then going on and on about how much better it is where they came from.

Lived in Honolulu for a year. Have traveled to Hong Kong a lot. Been to Tokyo in mid summer. Spent 2 weeks every summer in Indianapolis and Minneapolis a few times.

You can take your hot and humid weather and shove it.

Rolls with it...
I hate being in the ocean, but I love being near it, above it, on it, around it... I'm a total Coastal Guy.

Took a nice pre-storm drive down Hwy 1 to Nepenthe this afternoon, somebody wanted to see the jade jewelry they have there.

The road is newly paved and really nice when there's so little traffic, but it may get thrashed if the storm coming is as bad as they say.

Spent a lot of time in Rochester for work. I loved me some Sticky Lips BBQ. I miss their Cherry Bomb sauce.....and Wegmans, that is what all grocery stores should be.

I remember one time leaving the swamps to fly there, weather here was in the 80s so I packed my jacket in my luggage as it was hot here. Well, united lost my luggage and I landed in NY with no jacket and 30s outside. To Rochesterites, it was spring weather so I had a bitch of a time trying to find a jacket but finally after freezing my way through 6 stores found one on a clearance rack. Still have that jacket always been my favorite since I got it.....
