Is it possible?

Is it possible to hold it WFO thru the finish line at T-hill on a built FP bike and still make T1? In other words, if the top FP guys were battling for the win, and they were side by side, could they keep it WFO thru the checkered section on the track and still make T1? Is the finish actually at the checkered paint on the track?

I ask because my bone stock 05 1k with 33k on the odometer is hitting 159 mph (according to my QStarz GPS) when I chicken out and roll out of the throttle just past the end of the pit wall (but before the checkered paint) and I'm guessing that a built FP bike would be close to 175 mph if someone had the huevos to hold it on thru the checkered paint.

If you don't have first hand or second hand knowledge on this subject, please keep your guess to yourself. Thanks.

No clue of FP bike but I do know that the checkered line IS in fact the finish line. They make a point to say this at every THills round that the finish line is the checkered line not the tower.

I puss out right before the checker line too. I would venture to guess that badasses like Siglin, Corey, Lauritzen, Scarrott, etc. have it pinned right to that point.

For the sake of safety, I think THill's finish should be moved up the straight more so that the last lap finish isn't so hairy for the riders. I've seen several races where there is a battle all the way to the finish and one or two of the riders can't make turn 1 and fly up the hill. Several WSBK tracks have moved their finish line to a different location than their start line. A good example is Monza I think.

Wouldn't that result in a DQ? 5.1.19: "Riders may be penalized by the race director for... deviating from the established course. This can include... not being able to make the first turn after the checkered flag..."

Totally doable. Jason and I did it side by side at the end of an open prod race last year. He won by 0.001 seconds :mad Tigert edged Siglin the same way at the end of an FP race 3 years ago.

I have to brake past the apex of T1 to get slowed down enough and/or take a shallow line to get more braking done upright before tipping in. Plenty of room to avoid running off track, but the corner is sacrificed and it's only worth doing on the last lap.

As I said. The badasses have it pinned. I...do not. :laughing

Sigland went through a radar at 175 and some change I believe...and lived so others could talk about it.
