Is anyone able to help me shorten an exhaust can?

I just bought an '07 SV650 as a daily runaround and it has what looks like a 6 foot long LV pipe. I'd love to shorten it but I don't have a rivet gun or a miter saw and I'm worried I'll jack it up on my own. If you're near Berkeley and would be willing to help for some form of compensation please PM me.

Thanks!

It's honestly such a PITA to do this that I would just buy a cheap universal shorty off of ebay.

Don't forget to purchase ear protection while you're there.

I've got an M4 that might slip right on there. Need to get rid of it. (Just the cannister)

Can't be that tough with a cutting wheel on a die grinder.
The least amount if fun would be dealing with the packing

I've done it before using a hacksaw. It took about 20 blades, but I did it. Pop rivet guns don't cost that much.

Don't cut it too short.

I just got a Rivet tool and 125 rivets of various sizes for $4.99 from Harbor Freight. Perfect for the 1 time every 5 years I'll use it.

I just cut a Ti can in half today with a bandsaw, the packing was still good, so I just cut right through it, worked out pretty well:laughing

That sounds like the best/easiest way to go, but I would worry about the interior mounting points for a baffle and whether the end cap would hold everything in place.

Yeah, I thiiiiink I got the baffle lined up properly, but it could be that packing is making is making it seem that way. Regardless, I'm having a hell of time getting the end cap back on, that can was so damaged that it's now out of oval.
