If you are interested in adopting a dog...

Have you thought about a German Shepherd??!?

They are loyal, smart, beautiful, strong, and love to please their owners.

I am part of the Northern CA GSD rescue foundation, as a foster parent.

Check out the website here: http://www.savegsd.org/

Of course, owning a dog is a big commitment, but if you are already considering buying from a breeder, why not save a rescue instead?

Thanks for your consideration.

adopting or rescuing a dog is the way to go. I got my cattle dog as a dog needing to be rehomed 3ish years ago and could not be happier with her.

let sleeping bitches lie
if everything was spayed and neutered we wouldn't have any dogs (unless you count the sick, rangy street things that pass for canis familaris that some folks seem determined to import into the US for adoption from foreign countries by the tens of thousands a year) breeding should be left in the hands of ppl who are dedicated for life to the animals they produce, study genetics, work to eliminate congenital conditions and screen homes for suitability.

that said...

here's some other bay are rescue groups in case GSD's aren't your thing

www.rocketdogrescue.com
www.labrescue.org (labradors and so called 'designer' mixes)
www.smileydogrescue.org (border collies)
www.tikihutakitarescue.com (akitas)
www.arf.com animal rescue foundation dogs and cats
www.goldengreyhounds.com (greyhounds and some other sight hounds)
www.norsled.org (malamutes)
www.pugpros.org (pugs)
www.ourpack.org (pitties)
www.norcalbeagles.com (beagles)

did you know it's Adopt-A-Pet month? Pedigree does a great dog helping homeless pets and can even help you find one using this: http://www.pedigree.com/03Adoption/Adopt-A-Dog/Select-A-Dog/default.aspx

and if you are considering a rescue dog, please bear in mind there may be additional training or health needs- often, a rescue does not know the true reason for an owner surrender. if you're going to commit, l ook into resources for what you may need before taking your new friend home!

Already have one. She's a rescue. I found her on the street, we immediately bonded because I was her "savior". Took her to the shelter to try to find the owner, no owner found so they were going to put her down, we wouldn't allow that. She has issues we are still trying to deal with, but when she's at home she's a great dog.

I'm about to adopt a dog. I have one picked out but we are going away for the weekend and need to introduce the current dog before the shelter will let me sign the paperwork. The problem is that another family is supposed to come in Saturday to finish checking him out. Ugh.

:(

I know there are lots of dogs and if this one gets adopted that's awesome. I'll find another good one. But this one and I just clicked.

It's just like cars and bikes. If this one isn't meant to be, odds are you'll find another one that clicks even better. The nicest part is it takes months and months of searching with vehicles; with dogs it takes a week or two :p

Yeah, that's my attitude. If it's meant to be, he'll be waiting for me when I get back. Otherwise, I'll find the one that is meant to be.
