Vasectomy: yes or no?

Info:
- I'm 30 years old
- I have one child
- I am recently divorced
- I don't really see myself wanting anymore kids
- In fact, I hate kids (except mine)
- I am active military and am never in one place for too long
- Tricare covers it, but not the reversal

I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision and that I am not overlooking the pros and cons. Any suggestions?

You can have some spunk saved (frozen) if you decide you want another child down the road. IVF may or may not be cheaper than an vasectomy reversal. There is usually a small storage fee to have your man sauce saved long term.

I got mine at age 33.

Super glad I did. The doc is just down the street from my house, walked there and the wife came and drove me home.

Sore for a while, but well worth it.

You do want to think this out very carefully. You really never know what the future holds as far as family is concerned.

I was not mature enough (nor had the desire) to be a father until my late 30s. After our third child was born in 1991 (I was close to 42 yo then), we decided I would get snipped. But this was after much thought and the realization that we were both getting to the age that adding to the family was getting into higher risks.

totally agreed. it's a bigger decision than it may seem.

that said, I'm glad I did it. 2 children is plenty, for me, in any circumstance.

I would do like someone else suggested and save some sperm in the deep freeze for future maybe I changed my mind scenarios.

If you do get the snip please don't be that guy that puts the frozen stuff on his junk to help with the pain and soreness and then put said frozen stuff back in the communal freezer at work for future reuse later in the day. everyone hates that guy. And yes this is a true story can't believe some people have no sense about that kind of stuff.:thumbdown

Got mine around 30, don't remember exactly. No big deal, and certainly way less of a deal than the female procedure.

It should be considered irreversible, so don't do it unless you are really sure. I was. Doesn't sound like you are.

I'm considering it too. Not a "kid" person or "child friendly" coming from my background in the Middle East. I don't trust "western" women or media as much to not fuck men over in the U.S. legal system regarding any issue. Rather adopt or not have any kids at all. Motorcycles and a girlfriend are enough for me. :afm199

Recently divorced?

Enough reason not to make life changing decisions for a while unless necessary.
Agreed.

That happens if OP meets his true soulmate but not being able to have kids is a deal breaker?

The biggest reason that I can think of for getting 'fixed' while single is to not worry about getting a woman pregnant. But, that could lead to more risky behavior by skipping protection which is a bad idea. Just wrap it until you get into another LTR and make the decision based upon wanting to avoid pregnancy with a long term partner rather than with short term partners.
