I LOVE my new mattress!

Ok, here is a shameless promotion for a mattress company, for anyone out there in the market for a new one. I have absolutely no affiliation with the company, other than being a recent satisfied customer.

Background: I had my last queen basic interspring mattress for about 19 years. It was fine, for what it was. It was an inexpensive no frills mattress on the firm side. I had no real issues with it. I definitely got my moneys worth. But, after 19 years, I wanted something bigger and better.

So I did some internet research and decided on a bed in a box from the original pioneers of the concept, https://www.tuftandneedle.com. There's a lot of copycat products out there now to choose from.

I liked that they had only one type of mattress that should be ideal for most anyone. Their system seemed to makes sense. I was a little leery, having never really slept on an all foam mattress, but they had a good trial period guarantee. I was also leery about foam itself. It is, after all, a highly flammable petroleum product. I also had some concerns about off gassing, odors, and long term health effects.

So I found a good deal on a nice platform bed frame and purchased a King Tuft & Needle mattress. I also bought their protector and two king pillows made from the same proprietary adaptive foam. Their regular price currently for and King or Cal King is only $700. I waited til black Friday and got a one day only killer deal at 20% off, for something like $560.

I've been sleeping on it for about 2 1/2 weeks now, and I'm in love. It is soo comfortable. It is soft on top, but not too soft where you sink in. It has firm support with creating any pressure points. Sleeping in any position (I'm mostly a back sleeper, but sometimes side), I have felt no pressure points and wake up with absolutely no pain or aches. The pillows are equally nice. Granted, it is colder weather now, but I haven't experienced any uncomfortable heat. They have a proprietary adaptive foam on top that contains cooling properties. Hopefully it won't feel hot in the summer. Rolling over and changing positions is easy. You don't get trapped in one position, like I read can happen with memory foam. It does not transfer much motion either.

From the moment I first opened the package, I have not smelled any chemical off gassing odor, which is definitely good, since I have read that some people have had that issue with foam mattresses.

If you are considering a new mattress, I highly recommend https://www.tuftandneedle.com. :spam

It’s a pick-up line thread: “Hey, I just got a new mattress. Wanna come over and help me break it in?”

Foam is great for a while but then starts to break down after 2-3 years. Might want to consider an extended warranty if its an option.

Even if you're buying a new one every 3 years from the foam breaking down, doesn't that average out to be roughly the same / cheaper than the $3k spring types that average a 10 year lifespan? I've had mine for 11 now and it's getting replaced as soon as I buy a new house.

Also, what's the temperatures like with the foam? Memory foam is always too hot for me.

The T & N mattress has a 10 year warranty.

But I've read that foam does break down and emit volatile organic compounds, which does kinda concern me from a health standpoint. I've also read that a foam mattress will lose 1/2 it's weight over 10 years. I probably won't get another 19 years out of this new mattress, but for the price, buying a new one in 10 years doesn't sound too bad.

I read the title as "I LOVE my new mistress."

My bad.

:laughing

The T & N has an adaptive foam upper layer that contains cooling properties. So far, I haven't noticed any issue with excessive heat. However, we are coming into Winter and it's colder. Hopefully there are no heat issues in the summer. Plus, unlike some other foam / memory foam where you kinda sink into the mattress, it's not like that with the T & N. You basically sleep on top of the mattress. There's a little give in the top layer, but lots of support with their high density polyurethane base foam.

I laughed. I had no furniture in my current apartment for over a year, EXCEPT my bed. So yea, when I brought women over...... have a look at my empty living room. Onwards with the tour. :rofl

I had a foam mattress a few years ago. Never again. It was alright lying down, but one thing that got annoying real fast was that it kinda ruined doggy style. Basically your knees sink awkwardly deep into the foam when you just wanna pound.

We embarassed the guy in the show room after breaking our last bed. We had to make sure the new one would be sturdy enough for us which meant we had to “try out” some positions. The temperpedic we got works well for us. :laughing

Did the foam mattress for a bit, went back to a spring. Glad you're enjoying it.

Not all foam mattresses are created equal. In fact, they're all different. Did you swear off hamburgers after trying McDonald's for the first time?

It wasn't a problem for me with the T & N. :teeth

No, i kept going back to Mc D :laughing

They're just not firm enough for my taste. If the wife allowed it I'd probably sleep on the floor

I need a new mattress bad and I've been looking at the online foam versions. Outgassing and warmth were my biggest concerns. With a 100 day free trial and 20% off on Amazon, I'm willing to give it a shot.

Thanks for the nudge.

I like firm too. One of the main complaints, initially, about the Tuft & Needle mattress was that it was too firm. The I saw a video claiming they changed their formula to make them a little softer on top. I'd have probably liked their older version better, but I'm sure this one is better for side sleepers. It's soft on top, but firm underneath, so you don't sink into it, and it provides good support. So even though it's a little softer on top for my preference, it's still super comfortable and supportive.
