HWY 175 (just south of Clearlake) WOW!

I just got done with a ride up and back HWY 175 off of HWY 29 just south of Clearlake. This road is very twisty like 9 but less vertical climb. Amazing road! I did it at 1pm and there was hardly any cars. Road surface is newer with smooth dark black surface and bright yellow lines. Just perfect. Scenery is rolling oak studded hills, pine forest, grassy meadow, and farmland, although you won't get a good view of it all because you'll be ripping through the turns!

Delete this thread. 175 is boring and straight with bumper to bumper traffic most of the time and riddled with cops when there is no traffic. Avoid it if possible

I rode it once, only, heading north to Lakeport. It was around 6am, and I did NOT enjoy the ride. SO twisty and it's long (total of like 17 miles maybe?).

Anyway, glad you liked it, but wasn't for me (then again, I was in a rush for work).

When in doubt...
175 from Clear Lake over to Hopland does have the verticals you are looking for with the requisite sheer drops plus it is scrappy and covered with gravel. Sumo country for sure. But S. of Clearlake (Kelseyville to Middleton) will rot your teeth and you will die (from laugh-out-loud-giggling-in-your-helmet asphyxiation).

Next time you are in the area, take Butts Canyon road south out of Middletown to at least the little burg of Pope Valley. I won't describe what you are going to discover but it is as close to motorcycling nirvana on the planet, especially the Langtry Estate area (shazam!).

Pope Valley is a step back in time, very picturesque. I used to jump at the Pope Valley Parachute Ranch back in the day.

Last time on 175 I was heading east from Hopland. Go to the top where you cross into Lake County and rolled into the big pullout. I light up a smoke and call my pops as the last time I was here, it was with him. As I'm enjoying my smoke, the view and my conversation, I notice a plane continually circling the area right out in front of me. After a few more seconds I realize it's likely a LEO plane. I take it niiiiice and easy on the way down and just about the last turn before your elevation flattens out, 4-5 CHiPpies pulling over folks left and right.

Point being, that road sucks. No one should ride it. Stick with NeIn, Redwood Road and Skyline.

So many great roads up there. It's time for another camping weekend at Hendy Woods. :teeth

It's not my fault...
I recall someone said they got popped for crossing the DY on 175 by a LEO plane

Oh oops, I meant 175 Hopland to Lakeport (as being crazily tight), thought the Clear Lake part of it was a little annoying (traffic, etc.).

Amazing stuff up there. I stayed in Clearlake one night last year and had a weekend of moto bliss.

Morgan Valley Road is another epic run.

Also had a good time on Spiegler Canyon rd.

Damn, I need to get up there again.

Or try Bottle Rock Rd c at Cobb. Another fun road. Stop at some of the road cuts and pick up some nice obsidian. It's named Bottle Rock Rd because it looks like there is broken bottles everywhere.
