2,000 Free Meals a Night, Seasoned by Silicon Valley Chefs

With unemployment soaring in this region of haves and have-nots, a local Boys and Girls Club has transformed into a pop-up takeout operation to feed the most disadvantaged.

Two sites serve more than 2,000 free meals a night, one in East Palo Alto, and the other in Redwood City, where Mr. Pantoja runs the show with exuberance.

In Redwood City, I drive past the Taft Elementary School on my way to/from work. Several times there have been food giveaways and the traffic is backed up for several blocks. It's really great that they are doing this and it's very sad that there are so many people in need of food assistance.

I see lots of really nice cars waiting in those long lines for the food- I hope that it is really going to the needy, and not just the greedy.

I've met Julie Haas and she had a plain Jane Car AND was super sweet.

My current ride is a 1990 Tercel that was free from another BARFer. :laughing
