How Music Affects Us

mosquito

Above all I like to play.
So, I remember this book I picked up briefly at a record store in Tulsa, OK, in about 1984. It was about Reggae and on a page or two it hypothesized that different parts of the music (and / or sound spectrum) affected different parts of the body. It was something like:

- The bass and the drums affect the feet and get you dancing ...
- The guitars affect the middle of your body ...
- Vocals hit you in the chest, in the heart ...
- Cymbals and other percussion hit you in the head ...

I did a quick search for it just now and found two other interesting things:

https://blog.bufferapp.com/music-and-the-brain

says these things:

1. Happy/sad music affects how we see neutral faces:
2. Ambient noise can improve creativity
3. Our music choices can predict our personality
4. Music can significantly distract us while driving (contrary to common belief)
5. Music training can significantly improve our motor and reasoning skills
6. Classical music can improve visual attention
7. One-sided phone calls are more distracting than normal conversations
8. Music helps us exercise

and

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3354427/

concludes, "There is a correlation between ‘hard-core’ dancehall genre and the sexual and violent behavior of adolescents. Based on the responses obtained from the respondents, the findings reveal that females more than males are more likely to respond psychologically to the lyrical contents of dancehall genre."

Just thought these were interesting and wanted to share.
