How much trouble would a 1999 husqvarna te 610 be?

Looks like it's barely ever been rode. Street Plated Dirt bike. I hear you have to stop in the middle of a ride and change the oil...:laughing
What else do I need to consider?

Mehhh.. Left handed kick start, barely a quart of oil, funky european engineering. Dwindling parts availability.

Right kicker not a problem for me. Here's the situation.. I have $3000. Would this low milage, old tech, husky be more or less of a headache than a newer ktm that's beat to shit enough to only be worth $3k...lol

I just rebuilt an older 610, cost way over 2x what I thought it would and I didn't make a penny of it back selling it after 80+ hours of work. The bike was also spotless, looked and ran great. There is no market for older Huskys, as you will find out when 90% of the replies in this thread parallel mine.

Pick up an plated 05-07 KTM with the bombproof RFS engine. If it has been reasonably maintained it should have had the valves changed to black diamonds. Then you are set for years of trouble free awesomeness with great parts availability for OK prices (compared to Husky)

More of a headache. I had a first gen TE610 and it was a fooking disaster. I had to scour the internet for spares, and or pay Motoxotica lots of moneys for a factory part. IF any go for a newer revision of that bike, they made some changes that make it more livable. Personally i'll be sticking to Jap shit, or Orange if I get desperate.

You guys make my life a living hell. I wanted so badly to check in here and see a bunch of people say they were great bikes..:(

Sounds worse than the 97 husaberg 501 I had. That was a bad ass bike. But temperamental

Darwin's exception
Forest, Augustiron is spot on about that bike (early right kick TE610). Not worth the time or money. Parts are tougher to source and pricey. I LOVE Huskies... and hate to say that. But that was my experience and I dont think its gotten any better for the Italian built Huskies. The later, or last of the carbed 610's are better bikes. Like a 650R with a better transmission and e start. Those are arguably worth the extra work.

Are you sure about the model you're looking at? The TE 610 was not a plated dirt bike -- it was a dual sport, weighing 350 lbs. The enduro model was the TE 510, which weighed 260 lbs.

The TE 610 does not have such frequent oil change intervals -- it is primarily a street bike.

Right kicker not a problem for me.

Again, double-check the model: the TE 610 got the magic button in 1998. The TE 510 was kick-start only, but the kick starter was on the left.

If we are indeed talking about the TE 610 (and not the TE 510), it is definitely a far more reliable bike than the Husaberg.

Let me correct that for you. Swedish engineering..

Do you know why the nordic countries don't have a space program.

IKEA.

:rofl

Seriously, I think that old motorcycle can be quite the trouble, but very enjoyable if you enjoy fixing it up.

Do you still have the BRP?

Keep the BRP.

Yep, but I messed up and put a sumo kit on it. Now I can't make myself switch it back..:rofl

Just wish the XRs and DRZ had a 6 speed. People want $5k for 05 ktms that are all banged up. Always love the bike hunt:party

Why in the world would you want to switch back?
