Morning, BARF!

Drove down to GA Friday night to spend a week at my father's house NW of Atlanta - will be building a new turbo motor for the Volvo wagon over the next week, and his shop is a great place to do that sort of work. Earlier in the week, I booked an intro to riding / dirt biking ladies only class at Honda's Rider Education Center in Alpharetta, GA as a birthday present for my girlfriend.

Verdict? And... she said she had an absolutely great time, and had lots of fun. Mission accomplished! We plan to find something like an XR100 in the very near future. They had every model from Honda's trail bike lineup, so any size rider could be accommodated.

Facilities down there was absolutely fantastic. Honda has Rider Education Centers in a few states in the USA, usually next to a big corporate building (Alpharetta GA = power equipment & finance HQ for Honda USA). They run both MSF and dirt schools, with a great supply of newer bikes. I was surprised to see Honda running the Grom as one of the new MSF bikes! Brilliant move for intimidated riders. Could choose from Rebels, CBR300F or R, Grom, or CRF250L.

The dirt course itself was well thought out; excellent surface quality for the big oval surface, and a 'training' trail system in the back woods that included nice trails, sarcastic signs, simulated rock beds, small whoop sections, bridges, stream crossings, and so on. They've really put together a great place down there, and offer a handful of basic & intermediate dirt riding courses.

Even have USFS signage to help get familiarized! Typical well thought out Honda execution.

I know Honda's REC in Colton, CA is equally well executed, and I believe there's another in Texas. If you all know of anyone who is interested in getting to learn to ride, I'd highly recommend checking them out. The courses are all MSF instructed (both dirt and street), and use Honda's facilities as a home base. The instructor for my girlfriend's course was a very good motocrosser, Kristen, who was fantastically patient, and helped my SO have an absolutely wonderful day. It's really something else watching your SO get on the throttle and halfway slide the rear end coming out of a corner. So cool! Certainly made my day.
