Hit and Run in a crosswalk in SF

Even though video footage clearly shows the driver exiting the lane and swerving back, then casually blowing a stop sign, I'm confident that the pedestrian was at fault by failing to meet an arbitrary and elusive bar for personal responsibility for the actions of others.

One of my FB friends who lives in SF posted a pic yesterday of an intersection she was trying to cross with a message of watching six people blow through stop as she tried to cross.

I think its endemic to SF life. Everybody is pissed and self-important so when traffic isn't too heavy, people make up for it by flouting rules as long as their isnt an obvious camera.

I don't know who you mean is 'pissed and self-important' but if you mean SF people, then let me tell you, usually it is out-of-SF people, like suburbanites that drive much faster. It is because in their neighborhoods there are zero pedestrians (AKA who doesn't have a car? Must be trash!) so they blow through stop signs ALL THE TIME. Then when they come to SF they do the same. Maybe it's people from San Pablo...

I was riding down Great Highway and watched a car blow every. single. red light. People just don't give a fuck.

WOW. Fuck.. you (others) HAVE to see that footage! They are looking for a dark Jeep Liberty!

In fact it seems the Jeep crossed into the other lane deliberately ... and/or has been THAT distracted by the cellphone that he/she veered that far to the left, and hits the pedestrian--the car veered SO far that it ended in the pullout at the other side of the road.
ALMOST certainly looks malicious actually!!

I simply can't believe the silver car at the other sign did not see any of it happening..WTF Bernal, at an 8:20am???

This shit makes my blood boil. I dunno if it was intentional but the driver has got that clenched "shit I just did something bad bc I wasnt paying attention" hands at 9 and 3 stance. I hope they have a cell phone in their hand when police find them :nchantr

Snarkasm aside, I would agree that out-of-towners get CONFUSED downtown by the muni lanes. one-ways, turn-only lanes and make bad decisions like down by Market and stuff. Don't ask me how I know.

I agree that suburbanites think car is king too. I commute from Richmond to Walnut Creek every day and I walk at lunch. There is definitely truth that people don't regard pedestrians much here where the streets are paved with gold (WC).

We also now have the WAZE phenom. They even occasionally clog up my local side streets where I live. Could be them...

Editing in: I just asked my friend where it is. It's Holloway and VErnon. She says she thinks it mostly locals because the peeps have their dogs and kids in car. She says SFPD occasionally have a crackdown and write a ton of tickets. Since I commuted to SF State once upon a time, I remember that whole area is just kind of fast and frustrating....

As far as chronically, though, I think local peeps know what they can get away with better.

[this other location I was talking about where my friend rants that no one stops is at] Holloway and VErnon

I've done stupider things with riding and walking in SF, but.. basically, I wouldn't walk on that location either, take it from me.

Let's say I think it's a "Bad vibe" there, and I think Holloway is basically a freeway for pretty much all people wanting to get across that neighborhood. A bunch of bad young males drive like crapheads, but yes a lot of the time it's mommas or working ladies with minivans too that can run you over!

In fact that Jeep Liberty in bernal at 8am could pretty much have been driven by a lady, walking her dog at 8am in Bernal all the time. Hope they get her for the .. ticket.

Yeah I guess the area is a little different than other San Francisco areas.
