Groveland, where's that?
MILPITAS -- A 29-year-old motorcyclist died Saturday night in a crash that shut down four freeway lanes for several hours, the California Highway Patrol said.

Emergency personnel found the East Palo Alto man dead in one of the freeway lanes when they were called around 9:15 p.m. to the crash scene on northbound Interstate 880 just north of the Tasman Drive overcross and state Highway 237, the CHP said. Another motorist pulled the motorcycle to the shoulder of the freeway after the wreck, they said.

The CHP also was looking for a newer black Dodge Charger or Challenger that may have been involved in the collision. Witnesses told the CHP the Dodge, which has retrostyle wraparound taillights, was speeding significantly before the crash.

Police closed all but the far left lane of the five-lane freeway for four hours after the crash to investigate and process evidence. The lanes were reopened around 1:30 a.m.

The CHP are still investigating what caused the wreck, and it is not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor. The CHP is asking anyone who may have seen the Dodge speeding before the crash to contact the CHP's San Jose office at 408-467-5400.

Well that sucks. Came home at around midnight and saw the backup while going south but couldn't see what the cause was.

Such a shame and only 29 years old-this is a tale told far too often. Hey rel thanks for posting this and keeping us informed. It sounds as if there were at least several witnesses to the scene but I would not be surprised if the CHP is already putting the pieces together...:rip young man and here is hoping good intentions for those who are close to you.

For those of you that dont think that LEO's care... we really do...... any leads would be greatly appreciated.

It could have been any one of us......

What exactly are "retro style wraparound taillights"? Isn't that just the lights on the newer chargers? ...ie, all of them? Can someone post a pic?

I would think moving the bike before the CHP arrives might interfere with the investigation.

I would leave it for the pros.

Pretty bad when the article isn't instantly putting blame on the biker for once - sad day indeed :( hopefully they can find the car and driver.
