Greetings all :teeth

I just wanted to alert to a great opportunity to help out a new club on the UC Santa Cruz campus.

The Electric Vehicle club has launched the Formula SLUG team, which is building an EV race car to participate in the Formula SAE competition this summer in Nebraska. This is their first year and they are competing against some well-established teams from Cal, Davis, and elsewhere. They're getting support from Zero Motorcycles in Scotts Valley and I know a number of the students are also riders:thumbup :ride

If your interested in learning more about them and/or providing support, please see their crowd-funding page at https://crowdfund.ucsc.edu/project/1485

I know they are looking for parts and equipment donations as well as cash, so if you or someone you know might have gear to donate please send me a PM and I will get you connected with the right folks.

I've tossed in $50 myself - I'm a big believer in supporting sustainability efforts and EV transportation - hoping to wrangle a ride in the car at somepoint :thumbup :p

Thanks for reading!

Need Machine Shop Access

Help!

The formula SLUG EV team is in desperate need of additional machine-shop access to help them finish their parts. They have access here on campus but it is limited at this time.

Looking for anyone with home-shop or other access that would be willing to support this effort. Santa Cruz/South Bay ideal but they will travel where-ever needed in the bay area.

There are five students well-trained in machining (one works as a machinst:teeth), all willing to sign a release-of-liability. Probably have 5-10 days worth of work left to do. Specifically they need the following:

Shop with a lathe, welder, mill (CNC preferably), and other basic shop tools. They aren't picky, just need somewhere to finish the parts, ideally a place where they can work for multiple hours each visit. They were contemplating driving to Fresno, so they are flexible to travel and timing :twofinger

They need to make 8 A-arms for the suspension, push rods, rocker arms, weld tabs, bearing cups, steering column, steering wheel, pedals, heat sink, uprights, and a few other items along with a lot of welding and machining of purchased parts. They have all their designs/drawings complete and the stock metal needed - just need access to a machine shop.

If you can help, or know someone who can, please PM asap. While they can't offer any money in return, I'm know they'd be happy to put your name/company name on the car or something similar when it's done :thumbup And FYI - a number of the students on the team are riders - I've been cross-promoting Barf :teeth

Some pics of their parts/plans below -- TIA -- Barfers Rock :thumbup:thumbup

Oldest hooligan you know
I'm looking all over for the beaver shot only to realize you guys are talking about the decal...

Also, why does a two wheel gas powered forum want to participate in a 4 wheel electric project again?

Rider
Because most of us have other interests than just motorcycling .
Also
Those of us that look to the future, realize that most of us will be riding electric motorcycles in the not too distant future, and
some of the progress with 4 wheel , performance EV's will also then be used on future 2 and 3 wheel Electric Motorcycles as well, so it is good for us all .
