Hi BARF, another newbie here. I've already posted once so I guess I'm not technically a newbie at the time of this posting, but I haven't said hi yet so I figured I'd do that.

I just moved to Oakland in early August to start my first full time job as a structural engineer. The first month has been fantastic and I'm really enjoying it (the job itself as well as living in Oakland in general). Just before this, I lived in Palo Alto for two years during grad school, and before that I spent four years in Massachusetts for undergrad. I'm originally from New Jersey and I still consider myself a Garden Stater at heart.

I toyed with the idea of getting a motorcycle all throughout college and pulled the trigger after graduating in 2015 while I was doing an internship with an engineering firm in Massachusetts. I took the MSF course over a weekend back in New Jersey, browsed craigslist for maybe two weeks, and knew it was the right bike almost as soon as I saw it. It's a red 1992 Honda Nighthawk 750, and it had 28,462 miles on it when I bought it. About two months later it was time for classes to start in California, so I hopped on my bike and rode across the country. Totally kidding, I flew out and had the bike shipped. I'm not that crazy. In spite of the time constraints from school, I've managed to put a decent amount of miles on it, and it's still going strong as I approach 40,000 miles! Not bad for a bike that's older than I am!

The bike has been a great outlet for me. Sometimes at school things wouldn't always go so great. I'd find myself up late doing homework with no end in sight, and it turned out that hopping on the bike for a late night (or often early morning) ride was a great way to clear my head and get myself back in a positive mindset. I enjoyed the idea that the bike and I were both nighthawks.

I really like taking road trips when I have the time. After graduating, I took the bike down to Anaheim to visit Disneyland with some friends, then headed east to the greater Las Vegas area before coming back to California through Death Valley. Now that I have these wonderful things called "weekends," I can't wait to explore more of California! Thanks for reading, ride safe out there!

Here's a crummy cell phone picture of my bike in an In-n-Out parking lot earlier today: https://imgur.com/a/WinY1

Thanks, John! The Bay Area has been great so far, but how great can it really be if you can't get Taylor Ham out here?

Thanks, budman! Last weekend I went to Eureka and had a blast on Rt. 36. Also rode through the Avenue of the Giants, which was great because it felt like the speeder bike chase on the forest moon of Endor :mag

What a small world, my roommate at UMass was from Scituate! We called him "The Scituation" sometimes. Nice town, I've visited once or twice
