Heart wrenching Ad

Since I've spent more on lawyers than I have ever made, here are a couple of disclaimers: I have no connection to the ad. I am particular to Teutonic twins, and I am a big bag of feelings.

I was browsing Craigslist, and came over the following ad, which made me think about how much passion and how much of my quality time - over the past many decades - has been spent on two wheels.

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/mcy/d/auburn-2004-bmw-1150-rs-miles/6884761108.html

I was immediately struck by two things: How clean the bike was, and how intertwined the bike was with his life and his experiences.

And yeah, I am a big bag of feelings, but this could be so many of the wonderful people I have met on two wheels.

Reminds me of Gunther, who served me well for years as my "car"...Glad the seller was able to enjoy those years of riding. Those RS do border on the "Ugly-Ass" but are great workhorses with the ability to take on the crap roads we have. Telelever forks are still good tech.

Text from the ad incase it goes down.

paint color: custom
title status: clean
transmission: manual

It is said that you are never too old to enjoy a motorcycle but no one ever talks about being young enough to ride one safely. For me, age and the inevitable health issues have partnered to tell me that after a life of riding, it’s time to get off the bike.

The R1150RS is the last of the BMW Sport Touring bikes that has multiple adjustable ergonomics. With the Windscreen, Bars, Saddle and Pegs adjustable it is easy to find the sweet spot that allows for all day riding, whether is a short run up the Coast, carving Canyons or just collecting Iron Butt Certificates.

I found the bike in St Louis in the fall of 2012 with about 3000 miles on it. It took 48 hours to ride it home to San Francisco. Whether I was cruising in Kansas, ripping up the canyons of Colorado and Utah or dancing through the mountains of Nevada and California, the bike was fast, cornered well, got over 200 miles per tank (nice side benefit) and was all day comfortable.

Comes with all Books and Records. Most service was DIY with the dealers doing all the majors. Tires are Metzler RoadTec Z8 Interacts. Rear has 5/32 while the front was recently changed. 5.8 gal tank, 1135 CC engine. 95 HP.

The bike has thousands of dollars in extras that enhances both sides of the Sport/Touring concept and the appearance, making it one of the most comfortable and best looking motorcycles you can own.

OPTIONS: 1. Tinted Factory Wind Screen. 2. Heated Grips. 3. Integrated ABS. 4. Engine Guards. 5. Four Keys (3 OEM, 1 Aftermarket). 6. DOT Reflectors (front and rear) removed (parts included). 7. All BMW Cockpit Info Stickers removed. 8. Side panel decals (R1150RS) removed. 8. System Bags with Bag Liners.

EXTRAS: 1. Custom Red Pin stripping (OEM is Yellow). Makes the Ti/Cream paint pop. 2. Remus Exhaust with Color Matched Embossed Logo. 3. K&N Air Filter. (OEM Air Filter Included). 4. Front Fender Extender. 5. MV Verholen Adjustable Driver Pegs. 6. Two custom mounted 1” Ram Mounts. 7. Throttlemeister Aluminum Bar Ends with Throttle Lock. 8. Auxiliary RTPD Police Issue LED Brake Light. 9. Carbon Accent on Triple Clamp. 10. Wunderlich Side Stand Big Foot. 11. BMW Gel Battery with BMW Gel Battery Charger. 12. Corbin Gunfighter Rumble saddle. (Very Rare). Two-piece saddle with foldable backrest on passenger seat. Front is adjustable to three different heights and the Rear Backrest folds flush with saddle for clean look then pivots up to offer secure seating for a passenger. 13. Kasan Signal Minder with Programmable Turn Signal Timeouts (currently at 8 Secs) with Brake Activation that stops timer. The Programmable Constant ON for all four turn signal lamps is set to 30% brightness. 14. Color Matching Black Reflective Tape on Sides and Rear. Includes Reflective Tape on Wheels (White on Front, Red on Rear). 15. Handle Bars set up for Bar Back Extenders (Longer Hydraulic Lines). Bar Backs included but not installed. 16. All Season Bike Cover. 17. BMW 100,000 Mile Badge which is Super Glued to the fairing after original went missing (stolen?), it is not removable. This not my first BMW, unfortunately it will have to be my last.

Maybe it's hearing all the fatalities lately. But the ad puts a smile on my face. They have miles of good memories and decided it was time to hang it up.

Much respect for someone who decides it time to hang it up when the time is right.

I've known many pilot's who decided to stop flying when the time was right. Unfortunately, I've known a few who didn't.

Then you'll like to know you forgot a hyphen. It should be "heart-wrenching". :eboy

To be truly pedantic, the correct term is “heart-rending.” Rending means tearing, so when something makes you feel deeply saddened, it’s heart-rending. Sheesh. :teeth

Edit: if bobl's youtube video link is true I say the BMW engineers had a bad day.

I was shopping for one of these bikes, until I found this on YouTube. Seems they have some serious issues.

The clutch spline issue isn't as wide-spread as the internet wants you to think.

The real problem is that you dont know if its THAT bike that's going to have it. Although there are precautions you can take to minimize the chances.
