Happy 2015 everyone! :thumbup
Like I have done, but don’t always do here is a year in review for barf. For some this is a way to find some good stuff missed. For others a way to share a memory once again and for others perhaps a moment to shed a tear. As always however barf is a reflection of many peoples life…. At least a part of it.
Let start with some stuff I love… racing.
The Couch racers corner has provided a specific spot for fans to grasp onto the moments that MotoGP, WSBK and other series provided.
There is no debating that Mark Marques is a bad ass racer..! Some great racing intro’s from Kevin 714 and Spec ECU and it makes for a lot of fun.
I think I even saw one guy post that he never cared about racing, but because of the forum and activity he is getting into it.. sweet!
Just recently a barf couch racers podcast was launched and we can look forward to more of that next year..! Dennis, Robert and Kevin did a nice job :thumbup
And then we have the AFM. The local battle royal for the Formula Pacific plate went to the wire.. and I mean wire. Siggy made a last ditch pass to gain a one point margin at Thill. The time..?? well something like .001 seconds. Chris Siglin brought barf it second AFM #1 plate and fricking that rocks…! :banana We help out a few others racers too. Berto Wooldridge continues to battle with the young guns and at times that leaves the AFM President on the ground. Berto is tough as nails and so passionate about the sport it is inspiring to me. Eric Kondo (Kazman) has to be one busy guy too. The Z2 instructor / Barf racer is at the track sharing his smile a hella lot!!! And .. he went back to the 80’s when he raced sporting some new leathers which are flashing some pink..! Berto also guided the AFM into an AMA replacement race with John Ulrich. Pro Superbike And Sportbike Races Scheduled With AFM At Sonoma Raceway. It came off great and was well attended by both AFM and AMA pro riders. A warm and fuzzy event for barfers and man it was fun!
Anthony Alonso also was repping barf, not here, but in the BSB series. The challenge of a new country and new tracks, new schools, learning the language, etc. made his journey one of what I would call epic proportions. Anthony struggled at times, but the Krazy Cid is tough. Fighting off some crashes and injuries to soldier on in his dream. I don’t know what 2015 holds for Anthony yet, but I do know because of his parents and his own nature life will be good for him and his future is very bright even if he decided to retire at 16!! Another talented young man Jason Uribe went off to Europe too. The California kid had his mom posting some of his race info… and he rocked it!
We also helped out Deion Sanders. The fast local young man has been racing and winning for years and 2014 proved to be his best season on the big bikes. He has a class championship in the 600’s to prove it. I really like this young man and while it emptied my stash of play money it was worth it.
Brenden Ketelsen still raced for us too.. to be honest his stuff ends up on face book so I only caught a little of his story. He did more supermoto than mini roadracing, but seeing him at the Meat UP BBQ at Flying Horse Farms reminded me what a nice young man he is and what cool parents he has.
A lot of other stories played out on barf too. Scotinexcile (Alan) at the Isle of Man doing the 2014 Manx GP my schedule … that is so damn sweet!!! I am working on an interview with him and look forward to sharing that. He gave us an inside view to the Isle and some on board videos to die for.. :wow …. And he was not done there. He then took us up Pike’s Peak!!
Shouldnthave initiated the Z2 n00b Track Day Prep Thread! then DBenj from Z2 jumped in and man how cool was it to have that sort of support on your first track day. Truly a great endeavor in the barf standard of sharing the passion. Fully Rocking stuff! :thumbup
We also saw the CHP lanesplitting guidelines come out and that was a huge deal for me as both John (silversvs) and I were intricately involved in there creation. Then they were forced to remove them. :mad Lanesplitting continues to be a hot button item on barf and I hope you are paying attention because you really need to!
We do ride and there were some very cool stories and ride reports.
Khan led two tours of Pakistan for barfers. The awesome sharing of goodwill and another culture is amazing to me. Khan’s original journey (in the best of barf – SF to Pakistan) 1 and 2. He has 2015 being set up if you got adventure in your soul check that out.
Another favorite was Wolf and Zebra's adventure: San Francisco to Ushuaia. This was a life changer for sure.. sell you stuff and ride!! They are back now and are finishing up the ride report. One hell of a journey.
Another that got a lot of traction in ’14 that actually started in October of ’13 was Dying of cancer, but I have a dream (18 tracks, 13 countries) Jonathan has been a long time member of barf and his sobering post saying he wanted to ride all the motoGP tracks before he passes from cancer sure caught my eyes. Seeing him progress from COTA to Phillip Island and more is another inspiring tale.
Of course there were other rides that are memorable.
Dirty barf is getting into it…!! I love it. See a bunch of barfers hanging around the campfires, crossing streams and having fun continued! I am bummed that I am an old geezer and cannot ride the dirt like I used to because this would be on my list of yearly to do’s for sure…!!!!
Two barf rallies are always at the top of my personal moment list. Quincy and Hawthorne. Both unique.. both fun.. and man some awesome roads!! These have been going for a while now and you can find some of the past photo threads in the best of barf. If you have never done a rally or longer weekend ride this is a nice way to experience it. I always say it and will once again… the best of times!!!
Make that 3 barf rallies. :teeth EuroBARF 2014
Also on my personal list was a 6 day jaunt with Flying_hun, DR SLO and Butch. It was the longest ride of my life and the best. The guys were great and the roads epic and to end it at the Calistoga Flat Track Race made it awesome. It was also a proving ground for me. After a knee replacement and a TIA (minor stroke) I know I am back!
Also we had a BBQ MEAT UP and Barf Olympics hosted and put on by Flying Horse Farms and Horsepower. What a fantastic day!!! Have to put that at the top of my list as enjoyable experiences in ’14. Dani rocked it..! That was so fun and awesome. Lots of barfers.. more than the barf bash I would say and the event earn Daniella a barfie!!
BARF Pride Parade
Once again EjGlows rallied a bunch of barfers to represent in the Pride Parade. Her effort once again brought so many smiles a barfie was warranted, deserved and given!!
And a BARF BASH at J & M Motorsports. It was the bash that almost did not happen and even with a short fuse it was fun as hell. RacerGirl ended up with a barfie because of her saving the day basically…! Ded Ringer Rocked.. the Police shut down the music and we owe Ghost in the Stone another shot at showing their stuff for barf.
The Vintage Café was born as well and had their first meet at the SFMC Clubhouse. Barf continues to morph into areas of interest for our community. Later Carlo came down and John with the SFMC hosted us again.
Heck.. I enjoyed the meet and meeting John and seeing the new Vintage Mod – Carlo and damned if I did not get bitten by the bug and bought a ’75 Kawasaki H1F. Getting a little more integrated with the SFMC is awesome. What an awesome history they have and when they had their 110th Anniversary barfer got to peek in on that too..!
As always I seek way to set barf apart from other forums. A couple of years ago we became the first ever AMA O/MC and in 2014 we became the first ever moto forum member of the CHP 11-99 Foundation.
Of course the community continues to rock. We continue to hand out more Roadside Angel tags as more people join in helping others get home when they have problems. Gixxergirl1000 nailed down her barfie by being a leader of this wonderful outreach effort.
And we don’t always see happy things. After all these are motorcycles and shit happens. Sometimes it is terrible. When it is a lot of times you find people doing wonderful acts of kindness. A few years ago a family had their sons Christmas presents (dirt bikes) stolen and we got to witness a great charitable effort to replace them.
Well this year in happened again, but the pain for the family is much worse. kill a biker no problem This thread started in June by enki was commentary on a sad event where a fellow rider was killed. As time moved forward the wife of the fallen rider found the thread and joined barf to help find out more info and perhaps share in a little healing. Overtime and with her posts the compassion continued to build. This mother of two young boys faces a different world today because of someone else’s driving error. Yeah a driving error that kill the Father of her children. Life is not fair and nor is how the empowered views motor vehicle accidents with little consideration of the wake of emotions and severe losses left behind. Well some barfers cared and when Melissa delivered a cash gift to Silvia and her sons Franky and Franco once again the love of our fellow riders and those that love them shown through.
We also saw an addition to our Gone But Not Forgotten forum. Terry Dilley a friend to several barfers was also tragically killed by a driver error. Barfers rallied around the man and had a memorial ride. Terry was not a member of barf like some others in the GNBF Forum, but he touched us and now resides in our memorial area.
We also lost Andrew Nolton. Attending his memorial was a emotionally tough deal. See a very sad Father and distraught Mother was difficult. I had never met the young man, but felt going was the right thing for me. Glad I did.
I also went to the Gary J. Memorial. Saw lots of good friends and that while a memorial was uplifting because so many people honestly loved and respected the guy.
There are many, many other things that were memorable, but I would have a huge book if I tried to list them and that is just one year on barf.
So as we move into 2015 I want to thank you first for being here. Thank the Moderators for helping keeping us on track and attempting to keep us civil and respectful to each other even when we disagree. We added several new Moderator and Surj (new City bike editor BTW) in particular has been helping me keep an eye on Government situations that affect us. That is always a big deal to me.
There is a couple of things coming up that are noteworthy and before I jump out of here I want to mention.
On January 11, 2015 - Milpitas – there is a Screening of full-length BARF Pakistan documentary Khan is coming for it and if can come 7K miles I hope you can do a bit less and join us!!!
youtu.be/7mXyUk9qUaA
And another cool deal is we are adding Joy Higa to Barf RACING.! The fast lady on the west coast and AMA Superbike PRO is joining Chris, Berto and Eric for next year’s season.
She proved to be a fan fav at the AFM PRO weekend and that gets to get multiplied next year.
Welcome Joy!!! :thumbup
I hope 2015 provides many smiles with your miles…!
See you on the board, at the track and on the road! :ride
