Handy dandy bead breaker/tire irons

I recently bought a pair of Motion Pro "Bead Pro" tire tools. They are available in either steel or tempered aluminum alloy, I got the aluminum version which are more expensive but lighter weight for carrying on the bike. Yesterday I had the chance to try them on a very stiff and stubborn 16" rear tire and they worked amazingly well both to break the bead and as tire irons to dismount and mount the tire.

I found them discounted at $58 on ebay. I like to be equipped to fix flats on the road, and these should be just the thing for breaking beads, at least better than flagging down another rider and using his side stand for the purpose. Another one of those things to carry around that I hope never to need!

I've changed 3 sets of tires using these. I do recommend getting a third spoon of some kind for road bike tires or a bead helper.

The only tires they couldn't change were the ones on my 690SMC. The rubber bead was heat melted/stuck to the rim and when I finally gave up and took it to someone with a hydraulic bead breaker, wow the sound when they finally came off...

Agree. I have a pair of the forged steel ones and they work like a charm for bead breaking and as levers. I also have a couple of spoons, some rim protectors, a bead buddy and a balancer to get the job done. All my tire changing gear cost about $100 and it's paid for itself a few times over after about 5 tire change outs. It's getting easier every time I change a tire: technique gets better, learning all the tricks, etc.
