H.O.R.S.E. Rules clarification

This question is for people who know how to play horse (or in my case P.I.G. to accommodate a shorter game).

In horse if a player says the shot they are attempting must be a bank shot then the ball must bounce off of the backboard. If a player says the shot must be a swish then the ball must go through the hoop without touching the backboard or rim.

Question: If no specification is called out and the player shooting does not hit the backboard can the following player's shot bounce off of the backboard?

My contention is that if no specification is made before the shot then the following player may or may not let the ball touch the backboard.

Example: If a shooter does not call bank (or any other specification) and the ball touches the backboard, that was just a shot and the following shooter basically just has to make the ball go in shooting from the same place.

If they don't call the shot, I think you should be required to punch them hard on the shooting arm.
Like SlugBug.

I agree with you, and that's how I've always played.

Call your shot, or the only thing that matters is WHERE the shot is made from.

Edit: that also goes for hook shot, jumper, fade away, etc.

yes, agreed.

A an uncalled shot (slop shot) just had to be location duplicated. A called shot; bank, swish, opposite (hand), jump, and hook had to be duplicated as called.

You have to call the shot, AND you have to make it the way you called it. If you call a swish, and it don't swish even if it goes in, then it don't count. IF you don't call the shot, then it's from where the shot was made.

These are how I've always played as well. Call it wrong, lose your turn as if you missed. Thus the "safe" shot of not calling and making, because then you at least force them to take the location shot rather than give them the control of dictating location AND style of shot. If they make it, you're still in control as the first shooter.

We are going to play by "My" rules. They (The idiots in shipping) are thinking this is some huge new advantage and they are rubbing their hands together like evil geniuses. I'll report back after the next match.
