Great Escape T100 Triumple

Totally Tubular
I've seen threads on the T100 Triumph, but not the 2012 Steve McQueen Edition.

Looks pretty badass. :cool

Not really into Standards, but I may have to reconsider. I've always had a yearning to jump some Kraut fences. :ride

Steve McQueen lives on with a tribute motorcycle from Triumph in the 2012 model year lineup. The Bonneville T100 Steve McQueen Edition will be sold worldwide, but only 1100 of the special Triumphs will be produced. In 2008, a limited run of Steve McQueen Triumph-inspired replicas were released. Only 300 Rickman-Métisse Desert Racers were built, but the new McQueen Trumpet is a different style of machine.

Warning: Do Not Engage
Other than the custom color, the add-ons are standard ones offered by Triumph (skid plate and luggage rack).

I'm a fan of the movie though, despite it using a 1961 British motorcycle in 1944-45 German military prison :)

Ahh...the 2012 isn't anything at all like the Steve McQueen bike. And to top it off Steve McQueen didn't make that jump (his buddy, Bud Ekins a stunt man did), and even with the stunt bike version...it took a stuntman to do it....Mere Mortals would kill themselves on the landing.

As I recall, Steve wanted to do it, but the studio wouldn't let him. Steve was a very good rider.

Yes He was a Very Good Rider, He Raced desert races on his Desert sled...and did really well, in the circle he ran with, Bud Ekins and Malcom Smith...I Mean really thats Heady stuff.

But the studio wasn't about to let him put himself out of commision, making that jump.

I heard that Steve was so upset about not being allowed to do the jump he built a replica of the jump in his backyard. He performed the jump every time someone came over just to prove he could
do it.

Thats a great thing about Motorcycles, Lots of totally different ways of going about having all the fun You can have.

And the mind set that picks the way.

That Desert sled, had a time of being, when no one knew any better...Everyone was on pretty equal footing, so the glaring differences to come, weren't being seen.

Now someone can sit on a porch and talk, and a video can show a lot of dust cloud (riding on a real good dirt road no less), and a little wheels off the ground...but...it isn't showing a current bike, doing what a current bike can do.

I had to turn the video off when the guy said "sometimes perception is more important than Reality"
He is free to have that way of thinking, and he is free to have such a heavy bike in the dirt, and he is free to use sorry ass suspension.

That's part of what freedom is all about.

Will upgrading from a 2fiddy to this be too much of a stretch?
No. It would be an excellent 2nd bike. Bonnies and Scramblers are great go anywhere easy to ride kinda motos. So go for it!

Damn fine machine, but I think I'll get the Tiger 800 XC next.

On any Sunday...........

Think he was based in Santa Paula. Used to hang out at the airport there and had a plane.

Dave (Bear) who owns the old Indian shop called "the shop" used to ride with him in So. Cal.

I have a 2011 Bonneville SE..my 2nd bike...1st bike is a 2009 GSX-R 600. THe Bonnie is just a fun easy bike to ride..I commute on it now..at least for my temporary 2 month commute..did a road trip to OR on the Bonnie earlier this month..

Just a sweet bike...the T100 is not much different than mine...the McQueen edition may have some extras...I didn't look at specs..but it really is just sweet bike..not a high performance machine..but I just love the throwback look...really would love to have an old cafe racer bike..or someday a Thruxton..but for now..my Bonnie satisfies the little cruiser fun bike!
