great big gobs of POWER

I had an '06 FZ1. I miss the smooth throttle response. My '18 MT10 handles better but lacks that forgiving nature.

It's definitely a great platform to get used to an I4 because it's not terrifying. I think i waited nine years to get an I4 because I'd read too much BARF and wanted to be ready. I'm a slow learner. When i first brought it on a group ride with my usual crew I told one of the elders i had no business with the bike and he replied, "yeah you do," which tickled me pink.

I'm really happy with the bike and had serious fun at Laguna and Thunderhill with it. My only gripe is the size of the gas tank. But as gixxerjeff said, the fuck you power when passing is pretty rad.

Welcome to the club, I have 62k on my '08. I've taken mine all over California including a trip to Yellowstone, through Oregon back to Norcal, and most recently a trackday. I've had numerous off the line take-offs in Socals with cruisers and it just gives me a nice grin pulling away from others.

It's truly a bike I will never part with it and will ride it until the wheels fall off. Lots of great memories. . .

Looks like an awful bike to be in/on should one have an accident.

The Transalp seems like it was built just for you, R....in a retro-traveler kinda way. :thumbup

It's definitely going to be my "enjoy the sights" bike. I rode a transalp in New Zealand and loved it. Years ago i test rode tag3's transalp and called dibs on it. He recently acquired a t7 so it was available. It's got a Corbin saddle and ohlins suspension sprung for my weight.

:banana

@notraffic the fz is a keeper.

OP, I know what you mean, my R1 was like crack on 2 wheels to ride, especially powering out of corners, brining it back vertical with a smooth power surge.

I'm enjoying the smooth power of a flat 6 cylinder engine in my Goldwing. Tons of torque from 1500 rpm on. :twofinger

Earlier this year i finally cracked. After being FZ curious for many years I bought an immaculate 2009 with all the right upgrades. That's not what this thread is about.

While riding today i had to make a few passes and i just freaking love the buttery smooth roll on of a big I4. I sort of kick myself for waiting so long to get one and see why so many love them so.

I still love my thumpers and twins but there's a special kind of tickle from 147 super smooth HP.

That is all. :laughing

That is awesome TWT! There is nothing like riding a Time Machine. When rode hard they feel like the world revolves backwards and you distort time. The only trouble is when you distort too much time and your body gets there before your brain. The big torque and ease of riding are fun too. Enjoy and respect her. :)

Do the goldwing and st1300 have the same motor? I scouted the Weaverville rally on one a friend lent me.

@Anytwowilldo i will, thank you. I also just got that 1996 stumpjumper round boy sold. :banana

No. 1800 flat-6 vs 1300 V4. The CTX1300 got a detuned ST1300 engine.

Sounds like you're enjoying your FZ1.

When did you move to SW Oregon? I hope you enjoy the riding. Do you have the State of Oregon Motorcycle Map?

I don't ride up to Oregon as often as I like, but I did ride my FZ1 there, back when I had one.

Actually, they are quite different.

The most buttery smooth bike I ever owned, and I've owned singles, twins and inline fours as well, was the triple in my K75S which had been breathed on by San Jose BMW/CC Products.

Nowhere near the power you guys are talking about but that was the best engine I've ever owned in terms of smoothness.

When I had a 130hp twin, never mind the power you guys are talking about, I did some naughty things with long lines of cars on straights.

Got rid of it though after I got my 35hp DRZSM oddly enough.

Horses for courses.

Jeff, got the new fence yet post fire?

I'll never NOT have a thumper. I love the DR650 so much I have TWO. Nice for when friends come to visit (well, before this COVID stuff). It never, ever fails to make me giggle.

Good. Because the ST1300 left me feeling dead inside. I had expected it to tickle my giblets and it was the most appliance like thing. ZERO TICKLE. :x

89fj - someone just gave me a trackbike so... now it's really gonna be true.
