Home finally. Thanks all.

So the scoop is i have been a AAA member for over 20 years, easy. I had upgraded to plus because the 5 mile tow radius is stupid. At least with plus ($100 year) they'll tow further. But they were very clear about bringing gasoline to a 2 wheeler... Screw you motorcyclist, good day!!

After I regrouped, I called again explaining I was in my car. "No sir, I see you are on your motorcycle", the agent said. DOH! So the only way they said they would send gas was if I upgraded another $30 for their "premium" plan. I did it just because I wanted to get home.

Shame on AAA for discriminating against us just because we have a different class of vehicle. Seriously considering cancelling it all and taking business elsewhere.

AMA membership comes with the same kind of service and covers all motorcycles. I'm going to cancel my AAA because they are useless unless you pay extra for bike coverage

Piggybacking on the topic, but are there any differences between insurance's roadside assistance and AMA's? What is the incentive for using one or the other if one is cheaper?

Depends on your insurance but usually not much. AAA does allow you to skip dmv lines to register/title vehicles which is pretty cool though

I'm a bit confused. You said you upgraded to Plus, then said it was their highest level, but its not. Premier is. Did you upgrade to Premier finally before they sent gas ?

FWIW, I drive my car to the track / events and wanted to have AAA just in case but was going to only get Plus. They talked me into the Premier for a few bucks more because only Premier will cover motorcycle towing. Having that gives me safety for all my car ( and my family member's cars ) as well as motorcycle, so unless you are by yourself and only commute on two wheels, I would recommend keeping that AAA membership.

FYI, if you talk to the agent and ask for deals / discount, they can usually help out a bit. All in all, I paid $109 for my Premier including the $17 enrollment fee.

Yup, worth it just for this if you buy / sell a few vehicles a year. 15 minute in and out usually in my experience.

511 has roadside assistance trucks, don't they? I admit, twice I ran out of gas on 580, pulled to the shoulder and less than 10 minutes later trucks pulled up. I have to point out this is without me calling; they just saw this knucklehead off his bike on the shoulder the pulled up (same truck, same driver). Gave me a gallon of gas and each time REFUSED to takes cash donation. Pretty cool service!

AMA covers your cars too. My wife has used them twice in the past year for flat tires.

I gotta know how it is that you managed to run it out of gas...

Resetting the trip odometer every time you fill it up makes it pretty easy to determine when you're getting low.

Yes- during commute hours they will bring you 2 gallons of gas or tow you to the nearest station. This is offered free of charge.

Outside of commute hours they transfer your call to the nearest tow truck company - you pay

This only works if you are on the highways

I just joined a couple days ago. $81 dollars and 100 mile tow :dunno.

Mainly did it for the DMV shit but I'm driving cross country next month so I figured it might pay for itself.

Phocup I didn't say plus was highest but great info, and from others, thanks.

Scott... Uhh would you believe a programmer who is bad at math? :) I can't believe I've been riding over 40 years and still bonehead mistake. I mean back in the day we had a stick for a gas gauge or a knock on the tank.

Actually I reset every trip. According to my calcs I was 10-15 miles to the good and that long stretch down 280 with no stations I need to learn where they all are. The consumption is relative to your heavier wrist action for the duration of that tank so gotta keep that in mind or chop your trip mileage more :)

I've also been a member of the American Automobile Association for over 20 years. It's been clear to me ever since I started riding that the basic and Plus memberships don't provide any services to motorcycles. I was surprised to find that Premier does and you can bet upgrading to Premier was the first thing I did after buying a Ducati :laughing
