So I got a Contour HD for my helmet.. thinking about getting the new GoPro Hero3.. Where would be a good place for a GoPro besides the helmet? I was thinking chest mount?

Where do you stick yours?

Side fairings for smooth footages (no vibration). Nose fairings for recording the road and rider.

I have a GP Hero 2. I have only used on my Gixxer. I originally tried on my helmet but I move my head around too much. I then tried middle of windscreen, but I think it vibrated too much. I then mounted it on the bike itself but to the side of the windscreen and that seems to be the most stable video quality. I also recently put one on the back of the Gixxer to try a rear view on the track..I pointed to my butt for a session..bad idea..:laughing and then pointed it behind me..interesting view of where I just came from on the track..but at least got to see what was happening behind me after the fact.

Not sure about a chest mount. If you ride a sport bike your chest will most likely be lower down. You probably need to be more upright consistently for that to work.

I have also seen folks put one lower on the bike..side mounts..gives a lower at the tire perspective.

Wherever you put it..just make sure your mount screws are nice and tight..that will help minimize vibration.

Marquez FTW
I use a RAM mount attached to the handlebars. Very stable platform.

However, as you are thinking about attaching your GoPro to your bike, I've been thinking about mounting mine on my helmet so that it sees what I look at, not just straight ahead all the time.

Each has it's benefits and drawbacks.

When I go slow, I go fast

I have experimented with it in a few places. The closer to the ground you get it, the more dramatic the shot and the faster it appears that you are going. I have put it on my engine bars and on my footpeg with a RAM tripod mount. I have also put it on my handlebars looking at me, but I am better looking than most. The best place for a good shot on your helmet is on the top but you get big drag at speed. I put it on my chin, which eliminates the drag but places it lower.

Monkey...thanks for shariing your vids...very cool to see different mounting options..of course YMMV depending on your bike.

Dayam..your lane splitting video with it mounted on bars...it makes the left mirror look huge and as you approach cars, looks like it will slap right into the car as you pass...I kept wanting to scream "nooooo...watch out for the giant mirror" :laughing

I am going to try the back side tail section for the track. I did one dead center but only got my big butt..and couldn't see much in front of me. Want an angle where I can see what ia m doing on the bike AND I see what is up ahead..shouldn't have returned that pack of mounts..gonna need to play around.

The Bonneville..I bought the bicycle handlebar mount but only really fit dead center between the bars which places it behind my windscreen..haven't tried it yet but figured I would get that glare from screen and lots of dead bugs...need to think of some creative mounting options on that bike!

I mount mine to the nose of the Gixxer. I also make sure to safety wire it to one of the rearview mirror stems, too. It's not something I want to have to replace any time soon! :thumbup

Connie...the nose..so where in relation to headlights? Above?

The side of the windscreen but on the actual bike seems to work..no vibration like I had on the windscreen itself. Street and track seem to be a little different.

Every try any other locations on the Gixxer?

On my VFR I have it directly above my lights.

I mount mine on the handlebars of my Hypermotard using the standard GoPro handle bar mount that GoPro sells on their site. It works very well, and surprisingly has very little vibration.

Here's a test video of my ride to work using the mount (cannot remember how to embed or find a sticky with instructions): http://youtu.be/_4EN2qBCt28

No problem! I have a ton of other videos that I've recorded in the twisties and on the freeway, and I get the same quality video each time. I'll have to upload them to YouTube sometime...

No I haven't...but I can't imagine that there would be that much of a difference in terms of engine vibration or something else that could affect the GoPro on the handlebars (I could be completely wrong). You might have luck double checking on YouTube though - I'm sure someone else has that setup on a Monster. The stock forks on my bike are pretty soft which may help, at least in the city since the roads are so crappy.

I made up this custom chin mount for the GP3 Black for use on my Bell star helmet. I think it turned out pretty good. Good viewing angle, easy to reach the buttons, and you can see the what you're doing if you look into the mirrors.

Mounting on the top or side didn't feel right, the point of view seems off, and I couldn't help but feel I looked dorkier than necessary, like this guy:

With my setup it feel more like:
