Google Maps: is there a way to send altered directions to a phone?

I used to write directions down on paper and use that, but sometimes it can be convenient to let my phone give me directions through a Sena.

If I map out directions from A to B to C to D on google maps, with alterations from the default route, and send them to my phone... the alterations don't stick.

Is there a way of making them stick, or do I need to have a destination for each alteration rather than just dragging?

That's why I historically wrote it down instead of printing it out - it meant that I was more likely to remember it.

I generally put the paper in my tank bag, so I could look at it without opening anything. On my NC700X I don't have any good way of attaching it somewhere visible while riding. Can't run a magnetic tank bag on the frunk.

I used a diy "roll chart" in oz. Wrote out my turns and clipped those to my handle bars. Worked like a charm.

Re: your question, email yourself a map link, open the email on your phone, click the link and it'll open with Google maps. Send to home screen. I also did that on my trip. But eventually found I liked my "roll chart" the best.

When I open a maps link on my phone, it displays it without the alterations between the origin and destination. I just tested this in chrome on my phone rather than using maps, too.

https://goo.gl/maps/JUhP2egtPKo when I open that on my PC, I see Grizzly Peak to Fish Ranch to 24 to Camino Pablo (because I altered it). When I open it on my phone, it shows Wildcat Canyon instead (the default route from A to B).

I write the directions on a large post-it note and use blue painter's tape to hold it in place on my tank. Surely that will work on your bike.

Here's my set up. All my bikes have the top bar. Wrap directions around, clip, and go.

This. If you drag the route to alter it, it only displays for that 'session'. If you open your map on another device, it will re-route based on your destinations when it loads.

You have to set a bunch of destinations so that Google routes you the way you want to go. But then you may run into the destination limit.

Navigating turn-by-turn on a custom route you created isn't really what Google maps is for. There are plenty of other navigation apps that will do that for you.

if I drag it to alter it, and send it to someone else on a desktop/laptop, it stays.

no, it's a desktop/laptop vs phone thing

for some reason it sticks on a desktop/laptop but a phone defaults to least time

How are you sending it to your phone. I think the issue might be displaying it in a browser vs the app.

I've both gone to the url (via email or typing it in after shortening) and tried the "send to phone" option

both change to the fastest option, without alterations

Yeah so I think when it opens in the app it's re-calculating the route to your destinations rather than just displaying the URL that you sent. I don't know what the workaround is. Use a different app.

Definitely no workaround.

It actually used to kinda work - it wouldn't recalculate until you went off course, and then it would lose all your modifications. Now it recalculates constantly.

You can definitely assume that any feature decision made by google will fall squarely in the "The machines and programmers know best" side of things, rather than "the customer knows what he wants". Then, once they've got the machine really dialed in and delivering what the customer wants, they'll cancel the program and delete the app, then replace the app with something similar but without all the features people liked.

have you considered using https://www.mapmyride.com/
its for cycling but it can be used for moto rides too. you can build a route and use their app or export the file with the route and use it in maps or any gps machine
