Garage door opener

So, my garage door opener remotes (3) quit working unless you were in 5 ft. of the unit, and didn't work outside the door at all. An internet search suggested a new circuit board, or RF interference. A new circuit board costs 119, and a whole new unit is 143. However, I had just put my friends crashed bike in the garage for storage. I didn't make the connection until 2 days later when inspecting his bike's damage, I saw a small box with a lit LED. I turns out it was the transmitter for a helmet LED alert for his radar detector. I unplugged it, and now all remotes work again! RF (radio frequency) interference. Damn, I almost bought a new opener. Anyone else ever had this happen? Learn something new every day.

I dont have a GD opener. I have to go up a flight of stairs, down a flight of stairs, and hit a button to open the door

That is a great post!
I would not have put 2+2 together on that one, I don't think!
If so, it would have been AFTER I replace the GDO.

Elementary my dear Watson...............I've deduced the RF signal in the disabled vehicle is the culprit!

I turned off my garage door RF transmitter and took the batteries out of the remote. People have RF cyclers and drive through neighborhoods opening garage doors and stealing shit.

mine has been acting up, at first only working to close the door and now not at all. i think it works if you're standing right under the unit which is of no fucking help at all!

First thing I would have done was replace the batteries in the remote...

did that yesterday, still no workie...

how big of a danger is this really, when even the old openers these days were made with scrambled codes or remote recognition capability.... but hey, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you.

It also helps if the yellow antenna wire is not curled up or blocked. My wife put a bunch of stuff on a shelf under our opener and all of a sudden my door wasn't opening from where it used to open. I moved her stuff out of the way and dangled the wire back down straight and it started working again from two houses away.

I used to open up my buddies' openers and switch the transmit code. I'd write down the code first, and put the slip of paper in there for after they swapped batteries and disassembled it to fix it.
