Is anyone a member of http://www.yamahafz1oa.com ? I just picked up a FZ1 and I want to join that forum but when I try to register I get an error message, hoping someone can put me in contact with the admin.

I'm looking for info on popping a R1 shock onto the FZ specifically...

Its just a white page that says "AWC's SpamBot Protection"

I just found the webmaster@ email address... hopefully someone gets that.

I passed that along to an admin there.

If you're doing an R1 swap, is that a 2nd gen FZ1?

I did an R1 shock swap on my Versys, but didn't have the best luck with the used shocks I tried--I even had one resealed twice at a well regarded local suspension place and it still leaked. I think I ended up buying and converting 3 shocks.

In contrast, the S1000RR shock I installed on my older FZ1 was awesome.

I guess I'd prefer a swap that uses the latest model shock possible, else I'd be inclined to just buy an aftermarket shock.

Thanks... the webmaster email address just bounced back :party

Yup, it's a Gen2... 2009. I just picked up a shock from a 07 R1. Apparently there's some forum member named 'satan' that makes custom linkage to swap it over. I haven't even heard of the S1000rr shock on this bike, but a quick google shows its just for the Gen1?

Yeah the S1000RR swap is only for the older bike. If your shock works, all should be well. Of the three R1 shocks I got, one worked and didn't leak.

Got it. Now that I think about it, this unit is suspiciously light... i wonder if all the oil leaked out.

Evolution Motorcycles was giving away a swingarm/shock assembly for 07-08 R1 a month or so back. You might try giving them a ring and see if they still have it. :thumbup

EDIT:

Found the link here, looks like shock is gone though.

I just logged on to FZ10A with no problem.

I sent a message to one of the forum admins.

I will let you know what comes up.

Here is the message I got in response:

It's it's a "spambot" error he needs to try a different browser. I get these complaints all the time and it fixes the issue 99% of the time.

I think the webmasters have disappeared. Mods and current subscribers are still active but when it comes to user admin., it's non-existent. I had an account and requested for a password email reset, never received automated emails to reset. It's a bummer because it's a great resource (or once was).

Better to have Wilbers build you one than hoping the eBay R1 shock is ok. The spring rate will be correct and the damping circuits tuned to your intended use. The one I put on transformed the ride.

The front is a real limiting factor. The FZ forum has a “fork oil mod” that actually helps. Google that directly.

Right on. I had an Ohlins in my last bike, I'm on the lookout for a used aftermarket unit... But in the meantime I'll see what the R1 unit can do.

I’ve been a member there since 2002 and it was my first moto related riders forum. Back in the day it was most awesome and I even went to a couple of west coast gathers. But like anything it got to be more and more of a popularity contest and taken over by those who were part of the “in” group. Kinda like barf lol:laughing

Sounds familiar :rofl

So frustrating, I can read posts but can't respond or message anyone because the site never sent me an authorization email to finish my registration. Can someone who's a member there mesg 'Satan666' to get his contact info? I want to buy one of his R1 shock adapters...
