Isn't a front plate used by LEO as a radar/lidar target, due to all the plastic/carbon fiber used in current auto production?

Calif will never be as cool as Az.
Have you seen any sunbaked plates from Az? Color has faded and the graphics disappear.

I recall driving to PIR (Phoenix International Raceway) several times for Indycar races a few years back. Noticed a smart move by the PoPo out there. To combat the proliferation of quality radar detectors they simply placed unmanned radar guns on poles out in the middle of the desert. The entire purpose was to have you lose faith/confidence in your radar detector as it went off so often you never knew if there was a cop attached to it. It didn't take long for us to switch the damn thing off and dial the speed down a bit. Mission accomplished.

Az bike week one year, I was following a wobbling van that wasn't maintaining speed or lane. This guy managed to punch it thru a freeway speed camera and get the photo.
Lucky drunk? he only got the speed ticket, no DUI.
Speed cameras, not so much a safety thing, but a tax resource.

My car came used from a state with no license plate, so since 2007 I have been riding dirty with no plate up front. No issues.

I have the plate handy if I need to tell the cop a story like the bracket came off.

Location Services on your smart phone along with cookies in your browser are capturing WAY more data than any license plate reader ever could.

Why on earth do you think those are not also a problem?

Along with the FasTrak transponder in the window

I got mine, put it in a wireless insulated bag, stuffed it in a drawer and have not seen it since.

Some pos cop stopped infront of my apt at 2:30am a couple weeks ago to write me a ticket for the reflective coating peeling off the plate... that ticket was 1200. That’s more then parking in a handicap spot. I had to go to aaa. Pay for new plates and for the fix it ticket.. the plates were the original to the car (20 years old). Though not exactly your question this triggered my thoughts on plates.. if that wasn’t for some extra revenue idk what the fuck it was. With all the shit going on in Sf how the fuck do you decide to write a ticket at 2:30 in the morning for some
Bullshit like that. I was beyond furious. And people continue to wonder why we don’t like them.. the funny part is I have security camreras and watched the whole thing the next day. He must of been training a rookie because it took them two tries on the ticket and about 17 mins to finally get it right.

Come on, tell us the rest of the story. That ticket wasn't 1200. A missing or deformed plate is a fix it ticket and if you fix it within 20 days, it's $10.
Maybe it was a training exercise. Cops gotta train other cops.
A lot of people scratch the reflective off their plates so it can't be read by the cameras. Quit being a whiny baby.

(c) A person shall not erase the reflective coating of, paint over the reflective coating of, or alter a license plate to avoid visual or electronic capture of the license plate or its characters by state or local law enforcement. And in the state of California, the minimum fine for an infraction is $1,105.Mar 23, 2018

That was from 2018 obviously it’s increased more.. it was 1078 sorry I was off 22 dollars

Thanx.
I learn something new every day.
1. There is a 1200 fine for erasing the reflective material from your license plate
2. There are dumb dumbs who get caught.

Had firebird in my 20s. Never bothered to install front plate. Had multiple tickets, never was even asked about it. I guess I just got lucky or something. Still miss that car. :laughing Not the tickets thought. :laughing

I still shut the phone off when traveling over distance. I am irritated that this phone is the first one I have owned that I cannot take the battery out of.

I see no need for License Plates in the front and do not approve of the requirement.

Yeah, I have gotten no front plate fix it tickets signed off at one of those CHP inspection stations a few times. It has been awhile. I am older and smarter now. Well, maybe just older.

Edit, a rant for earlier in the thread... I hate dark tinted windows where I cannot see that a driver sees me. Pisses me off. Sometimes I want to know that a driver is aware that I am where they could hit me if they were a clueless self absorbed asshole playing with their phone...

Rant over.

Leave California and it isn’t the bloodbath they make you think it would be throughout the Southwest. Somehow society remains intact.

Conjecture aside, I agree. In many states, no one, not even law enforcement, cares.

:rolleyes
More drama in your response than fact, as usual.
It has nothing to do with what "they may make" me think. I don't appreciate wondering if the driver sees me as I approach at speed on my moto anymore than a LEO appreciates the guessing game of what's going on behind door #1 during a traffic stop..

If law enforcement in those states cared about not being able to see into the car so badly, they would likely make an effort to get the laws changed. Shit, even in California you can tint your back window and rear windows behind the driver and passenger doors to 5% or lower if you choose so long as you have outside mirrors on both sides of the vehicle. That would make the majority of the vehicle completely blacked out to any officer that approached it, especially at night. Yet, the laws in California still permit this to be done. Does that mean that officers don't care enough about their safety to try to get the laws changed or is it just not really all about that in the first place? :dunno

You can also use the headlights and windshield.

Yep. I add my plate number to the account and never carry the transponder in the vehicle.
