Four people killed at a party, without even revealing genders

Maybe you missed this part:
Three people, all from the Bay Area, died at the scene and a fourth died at the hospital, authorities said. The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office identified them Friday evening as 22-year-old Tiyon Farley of Antioch, 24-year-old Omar Taylor of Pittsburg, 23-year-old Ramon Hill Jr. and 29-year-old Javin County.
Looks like 4 guys.

I think OP was referring to the gender reveal party that went wrong due to a pipe bomb being made. Supposed to be funny haha title.

Title is absolutely correct, the point is it wasn't a reviled gender party, yeah!

Much more grave though :x :( :thumbdown

If you wanna case study on Black Lives Not Mattering, this is it.

I hate the race card, but can you imagine if any of these had been Orinda kids? All the family, the school counseling, the lecturing, the hopeful futures, on and on. It would have gone on for days. We would know the names of each victim
s parent, siblings, girl or boy friends on and on. I read a bit on one of the kids but that's about it.

This has been one of the most open and shut media reporting things I can ever remember. I dunno, maybe there will eventually be a perp and trial etc etc back in the news. but the response by media was underwhelming. And I really am not sure why.

I can guess but hesitate to do so. I just checked the Lamorinda Weekly but they haven't printed since the event. I will be very interested in the coverage.

I spend a fair bit of time in Orinda because of a non-profit that I am a board member of so I know at least some of the people in town. When I first heard, I thought it was some kind of local high school plus college kid thing gone wrong. That shit belongs in hotels and such.

I am only glad that Air BnB and party slumlords will be highlighted by this. I wouldn't want a party house in my crappy neighborhood either. I can't imagine that the locals won't go to war over this one.

I am not privy to what would have happened "if any of these had been Orinda kids", but, what do you mean not mattering--the case was covered top news for like 2 days on our local site. :dunno

So IMO it was pretty publicized ..
(That said, IMO it's obvious that Airbnb rentals for parties are always a dumb idea.)

Purpose given by the renter was either family reunion or relief from smoky conditions (I saw both in news accounts), not for a party. Airbnb restricted occupancy to 13, I think.

After this horrible incident, Airbnb is cracking down on party usage (see my East Bay Times link above). I expect that SF-based Airbnb has some Orinda residents on staff and that the SHTF at HQ.

Orinda has probably had one homocide in the last decade, but 100 folks from the hood show up and...

Black Lives Matter, stop killing each other.

Rented the house under false pretenses. Advertised on social media. Gangbanger shitheads from Oaklamd and Richmond showed up. By some accounts gun used was a MAC10. New laws are coming.

Because back in the day that's one thing the media used get correct. Most of the violence was, and still is gang/drug related.

But I thought all the new laws passed in California were designed to put a stop to it?

If that had been Lafayette, the cops would have been following them around after the second one drove through the city. :laughing

I remember the first time I had to go to Lafayette on a Sunday afternoon, I was driving a Ford Explorer and the cops watched me closely and followed me around. :laughing

Orinda, being more of a 'through' city since it's along 24 and has a lot of rifraf driving through it pays less attention to obvious out-of-towners.

Interesting. I didn't know you guys are all gonna point out a fact (that I didn't know) that it was a "gang-related shooting".
But yes indeed, even this article says about the weapon used ... wow

But I thought MAC10 was already illegal? New laws won't be coming.

Funny. Seriously??

The only reason we are caring/discussing some random gang violence is because it happened not in a shithole community? Am I right?

Actually, 5 deaths from one incident would get it air time regardless of where it happened.

Initially. But since the shooter doesn’t fit “the profile”, plus people that got killed aren’t kids, nor white.
