Fork Oil Volume ???

I'm trying to finish up a project bike that has FZR600 forks.

The manual says 14.7 oz oil. I put in 15 oz Maxima 15W in each fork leg. It measured about 90mm from the top. Compressed and decompressed forks and it then measured 115mm from the top. The spec is 101mm (3.98”). So with the measured liquid volume installed it comes up 14mm short on the distance from the top.

So which is it? 14.7 oz volume or top it off to the 101mm from the top???

Maybe the 14.7 oz in the manual is just for a refresh where a little bit of oil would be left after draining? These were 100% dry when I loaded the fork oil today.

Thanks.

I normally compress and decompress the forks about 20 times for like 3 sets just to make sure all air is out then set fork height at 101mm.

Yep. Volume measurements are only meant as a guide for how much fluid to buy.

Buy only top quality full synthetic fork oil.

Always pump the forks multiple times to get all the air out.

Measure oil level per the factory manual.
