Forcibly re-opening the economy, how will this work out?

With the $600/week $2600/month FED add on to your State Unemployment Compensation for many workers they make much more by not working than by working which is where this is coming from.

Not a Republican, but I can see their point to be honest.

The median personal income in the US is $865/week so obviously half of all workers make less than that.

Some much less.

When your employees make more on unemployment/welfare than you were paying them, you don't deserve to own a business. THAT is where the real problem lies. Don't be fooled by assholes saying handouts make people lazy when actually working offers less compensation.

They don't.

It's just this one time the Feds kicked in $2600/month.

Equivalent to $15/hr.

Many small business owners don't make that and in parts of the Country $15/hr is a lot.

Fed minimum wage is $7.25 and hasn't been raised since 2009 which is, of course, ridiculous.

And also, that $15/hr from the feds is in addition to the normal state unemployment insurance payment of up to $1,950/month. So the total hourly rate could be over $26/hr. There are plenty of jobs that are not worth that kind of money, so to suggest that a business owner doesn't deserve to own a business unless they are paying close to this amount is nonsense.

The problem with Workers Comp is proving you got COVID on the job, and the burden of proof is on the patient.

I think Zenith and the other carriers will be able to stop a broad coverage ruling. Essential workers may be covered but I think that’s more of an enticement to keep them on the job.

Sometimes, not always, the treating physician may be able to get a denial reversed.

For background, I once diagnosed Erysipaloid in a worker at a hog farm. It’s an obscure infectious disease, almost always found in slaughterhouse workers. I got a denial, but I showed them an excerpt from a medical text describing it as an occupational disease. I told the adjuster i would be happy to order the serology, it would have to go to a reference lab, probably cost big bucks and take a month to come back, or they could just pay for the ampicillin and a couple days off work.
