flamed out at work, think I need a labor lawyer

worked in a local municipality, got reprimanded for something that every one does, said fuck this I'm retiring, boss cut of access to all systems.
Afraid they will screw with pension, need advice and hopefully only a couple of letters, but would like to know my rights.
Union most likely no help.

Fortunately, it's hard to screw with pensions. Labor lawyers will help you. Once you've earned that pension, it's yours.

I would totally start with the union.

Yeah, Tux - get you to your union hall, you've paid union dues for however long and they've got a legal obligation to support you. If you're unhappy with their representation, then get your own lawyer that has HR experience. :thumbup

Get a lawyer.

Look for legal referrals from local Bar Associations. There's probably one in your area.

Here's an example: https://www.sfbar.org/lris/

Don't use yellow pages, or Google searches to find lawyers. Go through Bar Associations. Those are like unions of lawyers.

Also - get this thread deleted and don't talk about anything to anyone except your lawyer.

This means your friends, on the internet, etc. .

None of this is legal advice. I don't practice anymore.

if you’re vested, they can’t take away your pension - even if you were fired.

Alternative headline: Public sector employee retires in lieu of termination, but still allowed to draw pension.

:p

First stop should be your labor union. They have a duty to represent you, regardless of their personal opinions about what had happen.

If no dice there, obtain independent counsel to deal with the city and the labor union for failure to provide representation.

Don't expect your union to do the best by you, demand it. it's their legal obligation. If they aren't helping, take it to 7 on your side and expose their corrupt asses.

I know of one union rep who sold out her charges for 10 years, totally screwed them. There are some really bad apples out there.

It is really case by case. My Grandad's Union has been showering him with gold and praises since he retired and it has been gong on for 125% of the time he actually worked for the Union. My Mom's Union was trash, told her all kinds of wrong shit, and left her in a bad spot when she retired.

So it really depends on which Union, where, etc.

One thing to make sure you do is maximize your pillaging of public tax funds. If you are retiring early, that can can have a pretty significant impact on how much public taxpayer dollars you can hoard for decades to come. It is usually 100% worth it to suffer through a last few shitty years of putting up with crap work and shitty bosses to make sure you can collect the maximum amount of pillage. If you have to, just don't actually do much work and dial it in to get through those years to the finish line, the loot at the end of the road is worth it!
