"i wanna go fast"
So i bought a cheap cheap 1986 CR250 off craigslist. It wasn't running and it took throwing down a hill to get it running only to realize it was smoking like crazy.
A brief tear down revealed the cause:
*top ring was actually split in two even though the cyl Nikasil was mostly good. Just a chip north of the exhaust port.
at which point i knew the engine was coming off so i could inspect further. Moments later:
I knew the shocks were leaking so i took them off too to find the head bearings were a little tight and probably needed some grease (upgraded thrust bearings thankfully), the frame maybe needed a little paint to address the rust, so did the chain.... an hour and a half after my "new" motorcycle looked like this :x

......
..lot of elbow grease on those shocks too. things were rusty, near pitted. right arm was sore for a day
:facepalm
LMAO, talk about a basket case.
Basically ran the bike for 10minutes, almost got pulled over for being on the street with it and now its torn down. The cylinder is out getting re-plated - This alone is costing more than the bike itself :rofl. Rebuilt the forks (seals) last night, the frame and some bits are at my powder coater's (BLACK!) and i guess i'll cleanup the rest and get her all assembled in the coming 2-3weeks.
SOB, i just wanted to put on a helmet and ride some easy trails. I've actually never dirt biked in my life. Have found many good resources here about trails and stuff so i'll post more pics when she's done and about that first dirt ride.
Thankfully i can build anything and my garage is better equipped than some mechanic shops. I'm dying to get out there and do the damn thang with all ya'll.
I'll leave the original body work which is good, just faded. Age is earned, no need to hide it. Just want to have a mechanically sound sturdy bike that won't leave me stranded.
I hear this is a classic, is powder coating the frame black blasphemous or am i safe to do it? Just saying because i had a green 600RR once and that was pretty offending to a lot of people i tracked with :ride
