First confirmed case of Ebola in the USA

It's impossible to restrict travel from west Africa. There's few direct flights anyway. Most go through Europe, Paris, amsterdam first.

Only thing we can do is be vigilant at borders with visa stamps Abd passport checks. Been to Liberia, SL, or guinea? Mandatory quarantine.

It would be impossible to keep people from getting here. You'd just change your ticket to stop over in London. I have never taken a flight from the USA to Africa, or Africa to USA. There's shears euro layovers. You have to control it here
Case in point when I got back from central Africa, I came via amsterdam. So my ticket and flight number was Amsterdam

Exactly. You can't stop flights, you have to nip it in the bud at customs.

US cameraman tests positive

An American freelance cameraman working for NBC News in Liberia has tested positive for Ebola and will be flown back to the U.S. for treatment, according to NBC News.com

Ashoka Mukpo, 33, the freelancers, was hired Tuesday to be a second cameraman for Dr. Nancy Snyderman, the chief medical editor and correspondent who is with three other NBC News employees on assignment in Monrovia, reporting on the Ebola outbreak.

Mukpo came down with symptoms on Wednesday, feeling tired and achy and running a slight fever. He immediately quarantined himself and sought medical advice. On Thursday morning, Mukpo went to a Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) treatment center to be tested for the virus. The positive result came back just under 12 hours later.

Supposedly this guy knew he was infected, lied about it and deliberately put his family and friends at risk.
Wouldn't incineration be a justified sentence.

I read that 10 people who were in contact with him are currently being quarantined. They don't know if they have been infected but are being monitored for symptoms.

It's been almost two weeks since he started exhibiting symptoms. The infection to symptom period is 1 to 3 weeks. None so far. One more week and anyone who might have been infected will be manifesting. At this point I'd say my earlier stand is more thank likely correct. It's not a big deal, in the sense of Dallas being the epicenter of a USA killing epidemic. On the contrary, it probably shows our fucked up system is working, however poorly.

I think we need to count 3 weeks from Sept 28th because that is when he was admitted to the hospital. He would have been contageous and likely to spread the disease up to that point, but I hope you are right and the disease is contained. The people who were in contact have been quarantined until Oct 19th. After that date we can be more sure.

Quarantine is mostly voluntary. The more people involved the more likely one of them may not like being cooped up for weeks. Then decide on their own that they are not a risk to public whether they actually believe that or not.
Are they going to shoot them if someone decides to leave?
Still a few weeks before this scare fades. Will likely have another somewhere else by then.

I don't know what kind of legal precedent is set, I wonder what the particulars of that situation is.

You'd think they would be under medical supervision
