First bike for my toddler

Guys i'm looking for some advice on a first bike for my boy. His 4 year birthday is coming up and i've been telling him all year he can get a motorcycle as soon as he learns how to ride a pedal bike without training wheels. Well, he's been riding without training wheels for about 6 months now :laughing so I'm pretty much obligated at this point. He's 42" tall and has a 17" inseam. The 2 bikes i have it down to are either the yami pw50 or the ttr50 (crf50 is out because it's red and blue is his color of choice as of late :laughing ). My guess is the pw50 would be easier for him to start off on but i'm scared by how quickly he might out grow it. I also don't care much for the rear brake being on the handlebars as that's one more thing that'll change when going to a larger bike.

TL;DR , is a ttr50 an acceptable bike to start off on for a 4yo or am i setting him up for failure? While he can ride a bike for probably hours without training wheels he still can't start off by himself and still doesn't understand the concept of the brake :)

thanks in advance!

I would wait until he learned braking.

And maybe even a solo start.

for a moto in general? i figured with the throttle stop they probably don't even go much faster than his bicycle. To be fair his bike doesn't have a hand brake at all, just the backwards pedal thing. Not sure what's easier for kids to learn. He also can't flat foot (or even tippy toe) his bicycle which is why i'm thinking the starts and stops are more difficult for him than need be.

Appreciate the input

I got my 5-yr old (a bit shorter than yours) an Oset 12.5 electric trials bike. Super light and easy to ride, adjustable power and top speed - from walking speed up to 15mph/600W, flick of a switch on/off, and because it's electric we ride it around the neighborhood, up the local bike trails, wherever and no one cares. Best thing for learning to ride is seat time, and electric = way more seat time.

My son started at 4 on a PW50. Took the training wheels off after one ride. He rode that for almost 2 years , then moved on to a PW80 , then an XR80.

oset guys, how much ride time are you averaging on a charge? also how long to recharge?

The furthest we've ridden is maybe 3 miles, and all three charge-indicator lights were still lit. Since we've never ridden it to empty, I have no idea about how long it actually takes to charge - just leave it plugged in in the garage and it's full whenever we want to ride again. It came with a spare set of batteries (small 12V lead-acid, nothing fancy), and swapping them is a 3-minute job.

This review I've found has some info https://www.cyclenews.com/2017/03/article/2016-oset-12-5-racing-full-test/ :
It takes about four hours to fully charge the batteries from nearly dead and the average run time is anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the speed and load on the motor. When the batteries get down to almost dead, the bike just slows down and eventually stops moving when the batteries are completely done.

the no noise thing does kinda sell itself
i'm worried about how low the seat height is (maybe i shouldn't be?) and needing to buy another bike to teach gearing.

I wouldn't worry about shifting just yet. A few years before they really get there.

seat height, I think it teaches em to stand more :dunno

I'll be crossing this bridge next year. Still working on the strider

Osset seats are low like a trials bike, not really meant to sit on, meant to teach standing riding right from the start.

oset sells more than just trials bikes. They also have kid sized "mx" bikes with regular seats. However, there is probably an aftermarket option to add a seat to a trials.

not in the 3-5 year old range (seat height being the biggest issue) Jess, the 12.5 has a seat height of only 15", the pw50 is 4" taller

also, I think Oset has better retained value over time.
