Here is your Wednesday 8/5/2020 Carnegie UPDATE:
First I have to say that it was a great morning to ride. Temperatures in the 70s. Windy on top of the ridges, but otherwise just light breeze. The park was almost empty, so my daughter and I were often the only ones on the trails.
The map in my last post ^^^ (and in the link that Butch posted) is very accurate. On the west side, Pottery Loop is essentially closed. Further up into the hills, most of Franciscan Loop is closed. There is one short section of Franciscan Loop from Clear Pond Trail up to Brewer's Trail that is open. The bottom of Pottery Loop is closed, so to access to the west hills is from Juniper. Dead Cow Canyon is open and the trails above (Dead Snake, Dead Pig, Dead Bird, Brewer's, Stove Pipe, Bobcat, etc.) are all open.
Happiness Valley is still the happiest trail for connecting west / east.
Much of the middle of the park is still closed (not fire related) so review the map.
On the east end of the park, SRI trail from the MX track up to Golden Eagle and RedTail is all open. Black Bear is open and will get you up to the top of Ridge Trail and Los Osos. A small section of Ridge Trail is open.
Bunkhouse is closed, but the new trails just west of Bunkhouse are all open.
Overall I'd say about 40 percent of the park is closed, but I was still able to string together some fun loops with mixture of blue squares and black diamonds. For folks that prefer the green circle and maintenance roads, it is more limiting.
I did see heavy equipment cutting some new wide trails (maintenance roads?) from the hill climb area over to Juniper Trail. So not sure what that will eventually be?
Anyway, for a weekday it was very fun and didn't need to worry about crowded trials. I'm not sure what the weekends will be like with limited trails. It will be especially interesting to see what happens in the fall if they don't re-open some of the closed areas.
That's all I have for now.
