Finding a spot in Santa Barbara

Wow, it's hard to find a spot in Santa Barbara. Lots of postings on craigslist etc but people just don't respond or don't take their post down despite a room being taken.

This is frustrating as hell but I'm headed down this weekend to try and find a spot. Any ideas?

Goleta, Chumash Casino (about 30 minutes away), Ventura (30 minutes south), Buellton (30 minutes north), unless you want to stay on the beach (big bucks). Or, here in Santa Maria (about 50 minutes north), plenty of vacancies.

I still have a couple weeks before I would be in some serious trouble. I think my fallback short term is a "longterm" airbnb.

I'm just going down the weekend to meet with some people and hopefully find a spot.

Oh, apartment or room? I thought a motel. Big bucks in SB, the college students pretty much take them all.

Room, in the downtown area too. I'm kinda wanting to live "cheap" for a bit and save some cash for a new motorcycle and put some away at the same time.

One of the worst booze nights of my life was in god damned Isla Vista. Woke up with my face buried in the crack of a funky outdoor couch that probably had gallons of vomit/beer/sperm soaked into it.

A spot. Could you be any more vague?

It is a secret agent job. I have to be vague.

Haha I just mean a room in an apartment or house. Preferably within walking distance to downtown (lower state/funk zone) and with other professionals. I don't think I want to live with college students, which is the majority of open rooms as they come and go in the area frequently.

I might have found a spot that is fairly cheap, 1 other roommate, but not within walking distance. It's month-month so if I'm unhappy at least I can spend more time looking for a solid new place while being local enough to look at it the same day.

I hear there are reasonably priced hotel rooms in Paso Robles. :wtf

I have never heard of a chick referred to a "a funky outdoor couch", but it is very descriptive.

I lived in Lompoc for a year and commuted into Goleta, back in the days of Delco Systems. Used to take 50 minutes.

The night I first met my wife I ended up puking off her deck into the ocean on Del Playa. Good times.

Assholes, used to piss me off riding my bicycle to work from El Sueno to the Delco Site and pass by all you college students having a great time while I was going to/from work.
Was worse seeing all the brand new BMW's at the freshman dorms that were nicer than what I drove (Toyota MR2) and I was an engineer!

Rolls with it...
Lived in IV for 3 years, never needed a car except to move... probably a good thing.

I did, however, break my ankle in a bicycle accident.

Yes, alcohol was involved. Good times.

My roommate junior year knocked out his front teeth drunkenly riding home one night. That was eventful.

When you're there, by the time you hit your senior year all you think is "I'm ready to leave." Then the moment you leave and reality hits, you realize what an enigma that place was.

Everyone who leaves their college feels the same way but IV has this aspect of it.. its really hard to explain except for those who did it. It's an annex of a town separate from the local communities, it's a beach community, its literally next to the UC, the weather, etc. It really is some place I hate knowing I could have done and had so much more fun. I seriously contemplated applying for the PhD program there just to stay, but knew it would be WAYYY different.

I went thru IV in March 2014 for the first time since the early 90's when I went with the girlfriend to Santa Barbara, she was taken aback by the whole area, as was I over some of the changes.

She went to school in Boston and just couldn't relate to a "college community" (for lack of a better term) like IV, and when I showed where I lived in a couple of spots all she could comment on was the proximity to the beach and water. "How did you get anything done?"

"It was tougher than you think." was all I could answer.

I did feel like yelling at a couple bicycle riders, though. :laughing
