Fifteen years later...

Moved to Berkeley from just outside Boston in 2005. There were many factors, but part of it was being able to ride in March without worrying about snow. (Yes I did it, but it lost it's charm quickly.)

Heard about BARF from my boss after I moved, which I think is why I didn't sign up - didn't want to worry about him reading whatever foolishness I might be posting... :rolleyes

Back in 2001 some friends put me on their VF500 for the first time right here in Oakland. The next day they put me on their Ninja 600, and I promptly learned about target fixation and broke a collarbone... When I got back to Boston and finished healing up, I signed up for the MSF beginner course, and then bought a used '97 Kawasaki EX500. Took the "Ninja 500R" stickers off and lost 15 HP.

Brought that bike with me when I moved West, and stuck with it as a decent park-it-anywhere, occasional commuter bike. But finally in late 2019, after not riding much for a few years, I picked up a 2006 Ducati ST3s. And managed to get a few hundred miles on it before the pandemic shut everything down...

Don't read the bike magazines any more, my friends who rode have pretty much scattered or stopped riding, so I figured I could use a new source of local info. Which brings me to this post...

Oh: FWIW I was on Sport Riders of New England (sportriders.com) 2001-2005, which seems to have folded since.

If I can attach a photo, it'll show both bikes.

:newbie

always loved the EX500, must have owned ten of them at one time or another ... the yellow Ninja 500 was always the coolest, imo. :angel
since you're from back east, I'll mention that Bryar Motorsports Park in NH was where all those EXs came in handy. :laughing
(like sportriders.com, Bryar is long gone, too)

oh, and the red bike is nice, too ... :thumbup

moved here myself, because you can ride in January, too ... :ride

Yep, a lot of the EX riders I ran into before I moved were running them in the sport twins series.

All my track time has been in cars. That meant trips to New Hampshire International Speedway, Watkins Glen, Lime Rock, and Pocono before the move, and Thunderhill and Laguna Seca out here. I really, really miss spending the week around 4th of July running in Drivers Ed event at Watkins Glen every summer...

Peachy!
Welcome to the barfs.

I started out on a sweet, purple Ex500 and am pretty sure that's the fastest color.

Echoing Budman, enjoy the forum and keep a lookout for upcoming rallies (c'mon 2021!) :ride
