fiddy idleing problem

I have a old 50, and a new 70.

Both have the same problem, wont idle. Will start and run just fine with the choke on, but after warming up they will not idle unless choke is on.

Ive tried every combination of idle screw/mixture screw known to man.

New gas

cleaned carbs

new plugs

They both ran fine last year. :cry

Help :teeth

Chk Valves.. and clean pilot circuit ... If that don't work bring them by; I'll get em running... six pack per bike..

Messed with the idle, even cranked up it stalls, valves are good. Lean or rich on the mixture screw doesnt seem to change anything except for how good it will rev. still wont idle.

Hell, the 70 doesnt even have 15 miles on it :laughing

Bring it by???? did ya notice where Im at :p

If it was a car, I would swear it has a vacuum leak, acts the same way.

I took the carbs apart on both bikes and cleaned out everything I could find, making sure to put all screws back in the correct amount of turns they came out. Ive got years of mechanical experience as an auto tech, built a shitload of engines over the years and these little things are kicking my ass :laughing :laughing

Im going to take them off again tomorrow and give them another thorough clean/checkout.

hate to state the obvious, did you check the jetting? i had the exact same problem at the track a few months ago...turned out it wasnt the jets but i just had the choke stuck

whats the elevation there from sea level?

you damn sure you have taken out the idle jet and gotten a THIN copper wire and reamed in thru there couple times as to fully get ALL the gunk out of that idle jet screw thinger? should be a ~.3mm hole thru it when u r done and should easily and clearly be able to see daylight thru the hole when u hold it to the sky.

problem just sound so common to me and its ALWAYS a clogged or semi clogged idle jet.

check your carb float levels.

if u can get the bike past idle, will it run fine in the high rpm ?

could see daylight through every passage/jet.

Ill re-check float levels again, just to be sure.

They both run good above idle, just a little tempermental to tell due to the choke needs to be on to get it running, and you have to ease the choke off as you bring up the RPM or it will choke out.

Im going to dive into the carbs again tonight, see whats up.

The 50 runs great above idle, just seems to have a too low idle setting, but its not.

Well, took them both apart for the 4th time, and they run just fine now :nerd

I guess there was just a little shit somewhere in there that I missed 3 times before :laughing

Oh well, they run great. Thanks for the help. :teeth
