I spent the night in a private campground in Big Sur, back in '75/'76. I can't say for sure but that "office" kind of sparks a memory.
What I remember, was settling in with the tarp off one side for shelter.
6 am, I got the rv generator and the farm report.
While I was shaving, I overheard someone complaining about tv reception. My take, maybe the same guy.
Not quite boondocking.
If you ever pick up a Sepia toned book cover with a title close to "History of Big Sur", look to page 118. My grandparents R. Rhyne, with my mom and aunt, listed as first US forest ranger there.
... Ralph Rhyne?
“Historical Overview Los Padres National Forest”,
E. R. (JIM) BLAKLEY, Naturalist and Historian
of the Santa Barbara Backcountry
and KAREN BARNETTE, Cultural Resources Specialist,
Los Padres National Forest , 1985 ...
pretty thorough ...
... see page 64 for mention of Ralph Rhyne, "2.4.3 Civilian Conservation Corps Era":

... and yes, Fernwood Resort isn’t boondocking ... :laughing
... think our tent cabin was $110/night ... ouch ...
tent camping on the river, $60/night ...
... strange how our motorcycle careers evolve ...
looks like we may be trying to do more
sport-touring+music festival+camping in the future ... :dunno
... fun looking into the history
of Big Sur, thanks for the post!
