Fake News for Joshua Tree

SKRRRRRRRRRRRT!!!!!!
EDIT: I WANT TO BE CLEAR HERE, NO DOUBT THERE IS VANDALISM AND PROBLEMS IN OUR NATIONAL PARKS LATELY. THE FAKE NEWS OF THIS IS THE FACT ITS BEING PINNED ON THE OHV 4X4 COMMUNITY

Another fake news story. There appears to be false claims by anti-offroading enthusiasts claiming that there has been damage done deep into the park by 4x4 trails being built and trees cut down with a chainsaw. Its a load of crap and the fact that so many news media sources ate this story up is pure non-sense. There has been no photo evidence of trails or photos produced of these "trees" with chain saw marks. Its just a shame that there are so many people out there that jump on this band wagon. more info @ corvas website and social media pages https://www.instagram.com/p/BshkUeGBcjy/

We've all seen the photos of the overflowing garbage in the parks. The people shitting on the roads in Yosemite because bathrooms are shut down. Do you really think people aren't going to take advantage of a situation to go in and vandalize things? This probably isn't the result of any 4WD enthusiast, but rather some asshole punks.

That or a tree fell over, as they may do...

Its good that they protect stuff, but its not a guarantee that nothing will ever happen ever. The park is full of happy trees, one of them had a problem. The rest will be fine. Theres no proof that this would not have happened even if there was a ranger standing right there.

This is true. But considering it was reported by NPS staff, and they are using funds to stay open and "repair the damage" tells me that it probably happened. My experience has shown that NPS staff usually don't post lies on their public website in some weird way to get back at off-road vehicles that are already banned from the park. What advantage or angle is there to do so?

Look at that tree. Do you honestly think it "just fell over"? Sheesh.
Yes, there are plenty of other happy trees in JTNP but if each visitor cut just one tree, how many are going to remain? Damage to our parks is incremental. Every tree cut down, every truck parked off pavement, every trail cut through sensitive habitat may be small but when you add them all up, the damage can be profound and irreversible.
Our national parks are our gift to future generations and should be cared for and protected like precious jewels. In many places, our NPs are small examples of what once was. I've spent my whole life visiting National Parks and don't want one blade of grass disturbed.

The present administration has caused enough damage to our National Parks and Monuments. It's time to stop.

There used to be 8 small trees on the top of half dome. The first time I was up there I remember them well. They are no longer there as people cut them down, presumably to burn. It happens. And it happens when parks are open too.

That picture looks like a tree that fell naturally. There is no photo evidence of trails or trees cut by chainsaw. Just numerous media outlets reproducing the same picture

You can see hatchet marks all over that cut. Trees don't fall over that cleanly.

There is some empty land near me that had attracted a lot of off-roaders. They would have campfires and get wood by pulling trees over or breaking off larger branches using tow straps. Never used chainsaws.

Too many people only do the right thing when others are looking.
In short: This is why we can't have nice things.

There is more to the story, I didn't read about it but the social media geotagging hotspots has caused some areas to just blow up.

Some horseshoe island formation in like Arizona or Colorado saw like 1k visitors annually before social media now it's blown up to millions anually. The gov has not designated it as a real site where they monitor and preserve, and they are scared people will start falling off the cliff side since there are no trails and no guard railings

Some say enviro nazis are executing this vandalism specifically so they can blame the OHV community...

This. That tree which is actually a succulent looks to have fallen and twisted slightly. The claim is they were cut down with a chainsaw not a hatchet. Also claims of trails. No evidence of trails or multiple trees. Just this one image that even if it was cut looks like it could have been done with a hatchet years ago.

First it fell naturally. Then you concede it was a hatchet and not a chainsaw. :laughing

Sure there is a bit of sensationalism tied to the shutdown, but there are jackasses out there who do this crap, and reduced enforcement doesn't seem like it would help.

Here is a more comprehensive description, including a higher resolution picture of the tree.

Sure looks like the wood chips on the ground by the tree. But I'm sure it's just a big deep state conspiracy cooked up by the park rangers

Seriously.

Just read the actual fucking source instead of blinding jumping to an assumption (YOU are fake news). More photos are included, along with the actual campsite of the trespassers.

ok so how does this prove some "4x4s" did this? :laughing looks like a campsite thats your proof? CORVA is pretty credible. No doubt there are vandals and people who dont give a shit out there but to rope in the 4x4 ohv community is complete BS and clearly has an agenda.

and the national parks traveler .org is a reliable source? THEEE source? give me a break :laughing:laughing:rofl
