Faith in (Moto)humanity restored

Wut, bodda you?
So, I’m having an exceptionally sucky day in addition to sucky week/month/2020.

I just merged on to 880 NB from Thornton and have the mental note of fueling up right at the forefront of my pea-sized brain when lo and behold, Moto looks up at me and says, “Who’re you kiddin, bro?!?!” as I coast for another several hundred yards.

I’m about an 1/4 of a mile on to 880 and I’m coasting and coasting to where I’m now better off forging ahead vs turning around to grab fuel (bad decision).

My pea brain again says just push to next exit being Decoto. I’m just huffing and puffing away in my ATGATT of course and nice dude in Range Rover kindly offers to give me a lift to the gas station. I politely decline and say it’s just about a mile up by the exit. He persists and I pass on his offer thanking him greatly for stopping etc.

I try to start her again and she just cranks and cranks but no luck. I’m shaking the bike and hear zero sloshing at all (makes for few lbs lighter to push I guess).

I get another several hundred yards up and a second good guy driving a Ford wagon stops. I try to convince him I’m ok because I’m now about 1/2 mile away from the exit and should be fine.

This guy is really persistent and pulls up the nearest gas station on his phone which apparently is more like 1.8 miles from us and convinces me it’s much farther than I think.

We agree that I will trudge on to decoto and pull off on the first side street to meet there. He speeds off and I march on.

The whole time I’m thanking the good Lord I’m in my Hi Viz gear because I can feel cars zooming past inches away without a single thought of slowing down or moving over.

Not even 5 mins after I peel my balaclava and helmet off on the side street, the Good Samaritan makes his way back to me.

He pours about 2 liters of fuel in and she fires right up! I insist on Venmo or PayPal as I didn’t have any cash on me and he refuses. He says to pay it forward anyway I am able and drives off saying, “You’re a good person; I can tell!”

The act of kindness was very much needed but his words made the deepest impact. God sent some of his troops to check up on me today because he knew I needed it.

To my two Moto-riding brothers that stopped to help; may God, life and karma always bring you blessings...

Angelo

I ran out of gas once on 101 in Petaluma. This kid in a riced out Honda stopped and asked if I needed help. He gave me a ride to the next exit which had a gas station. I bought a Gatorade, poured it out and filled it and his tank with gas. He gave me a ride back to my bike and that was a good end to a shitty day.

Cool story, bro! (Really!!!) Thank you for sharing the good vibes.

@TWT - I’m ready to share good vibes as well! I do make it a point to stop and pullover whether I’m caging or Moto just make to sure folks are ok.

Today was just one of those days/years that this act of kindness hit hard in the right way.

Amen any time the day ends on the upswing!!!

Very cool, having run out of gas and gotten help (not as unexpected as I was on a group ride) I am definitely due to pay it forward.

Angelo sometimes you have to listen to those who stop, and offer the ride.
Glad they kept looking out for you past you being too proud to accept help.
Pushing a bike a mile or two will tire you the F out.
Whammy is happy your day was saved vs pushing the bike the whole way to the gas station.
Sometimes taking help isn;t all that bad. :thumbup
There are some really good people out there and someone above was looking out for you on this day!:gsxrgrl

You know.who you are - thinking of a good friend i got to know because he was pushing his decrepit Versys.

Good deeds are rewarded; not always in ways you expect, but they do get rewarded.

That was nice of them! Suspect you'll enjoy being able to pay those good vibes forward at some point!

Whammy, wasn’t so much the pride vs inconvenience to a stranger. You are right; isn’t bad at all to accept help.

I was reminded that this could have easily been my turn to receive...quite humbling, and quite profound.

Thanks all; happy holidays and happy riding!
