F/S: 2002 KTM 640SM supermotard $3900
Just recently bought this motorcycle, it's been a great bike, rode about 1,000 miles. :ride
In very good condition, no rashed plastics or any major wear. Only footpeg wear and some very small scratches from riding. The bike gets about ~85miles per tank full, runs great, just start with a little choke and let it run for a few. Normal operation with any non FI bike.
Compared to the Suzuki DRZ-400, this bike is more powerful. It pulls at lower speeds like my old SV650, and you can cruise around 70mph with power to pass cars without downshifting. Speeds above 70mph make more vibration on the bars. If you have never ridden a dirt bike single, the KTM will feel very rough and have a lot of vibration. It's not for everyone but after a few miles you'll get used to it, or at least numb from the vibration.
If you like to spend your time above 100mph then this isn't the bike for you but if you like to ride the tighter stuff this is a great choice. Coming from two other street bikes a Ninja 250 and then a 2nd gen SV650S, I can say it's a very different ride feeling. The bike weights about the same as a Ninja 250 but feels as fast as the SV650. With the wide bars and upright seating you can steer the bike with little input. Combined with the grippy tires, this bike makes for a very confident inspiring motorcycle in the hills. Even over gravel in a turn on Mt Hamilton, the bike never slipped or even felt unstable.
As with any supermotard bike, they take more care and attention than a regular Japanese ride. From the vibration parts will work them selves loose over time and the higher stress of street riding, oil changes are to be done as scheduled. Unlike lower powered motorcycles, supermotards eat tires up just as fast as any liter bike, so if you run through a 180 per month on your current ride, expect to buy a 160/150 per month on a supermotard. If you ever do bin a supermotard it's a great benefit how well they crash. Typically you can ride it away with little to replace, I don't have
Here's a detail list of the bike:
2002 KTM 640SM in red (mileage as of 6/20/07 18,064 miles, haven't ridden it since)
Factory two tone seat, red/black
Factory softer comfort seat, it's a larger but softer foam seat, gives a 1" lower feeling because the foam is soft
Front and rear brake pads changed 800 miles ago with KTM factory pads. Also flushed the brake fluid.
Front tire is a Avon rain tire 120, still lots of life.
Rear tire is a Contentinal supermoto tire 160, about 1/2 life left. The tire is really wide and would recommend a 150 for better turning.
Renthal Fatbars.
Akrapovic Titanium exhaust system, with insert to make it a bit quieter
Stock Supertrapp exhaust system, never mounted it but I assume it's not as loud
Ventura rack system, this is mounted very solid to the bike, with 2 racks
12v bmw style power connector, this is not connected but only requires a 12v fuse and connection to the battery.
Factory manual and cd versions in pdf format.
Rear passenger pegs, these are removed from the bike for faster performance.
KTM rear axel sliders.
Here's the pictures. If you would like to see more or a certain angle, please let me know.
$3900 I have the title in hand.
Test rides ok with cash in hand. Motorcycle is located in Fremont. If you want to meet up at another location, I could have my friend ride the bike there. I work during the weekday and home around 6pm, weekends vary.
Please contact me by PM or e-mail at rfreiberger at gmail dot com. I answer all of my e-mails and if you do not hear back from me, please let me know in this thread.
Thanks,
Rob
