F-16 Crashes into Sidi Warehouse

I heard about the F-16 crashing this morning, and just saw an Instagram post from Sidi saying it was there warehouse.

Expect some delays.

Doesn't seem like the plane exploded into a fireball when it impacted, so that's a plus.

Doesn't seem like the plane exploded into a fireball when it impacted, so that's a plus.

I’m shocked and completely blown away that there wasn’t a massive explosion. There had to be 2-7000lbs of fuel onboard. At a minimum there is a very volatile container of Hydrazine (a form of rocket fuel) on the aircraft. Still some question of the ordnance load too.

Given the video of the crash, it appears that the engine wasn’t putting out much thrust. I wonder if it failed, or if the throttle was pulled back (doubtful).

The proximity of the canopy to the ejection seat to the parachute indicates a fairly low speed egress.

The lambo crash was gruesome. Dude lost t-boned a jeep and wrapped himself around a tree. He was ejected, the chick bled out at the scene. He was 25, she was 19..

I probably woulda killed someone if I had a Lamborghini in my 20’s. Sad.

Multi-part answer:
External fuel tanks could have been jettisoned and instantly removed a few thousand pounds. I seriously doubt the pilot would have done that due to the close proximity of civilians.

Internal fuel can be dumped too, but no where near fast enough to be of benefit in this incident.

I've yet to hear if this happened during take-off or landing, although the lack of explosion and fire leads me to think it was during landing (less fuel onboard). I wonder if there was an engine failure and the pilot was attempting to perform a deadstick landing. The F-16 is able to them much easier(ha!) than other aircraft. There are many vids on YouTube.
