Extra Fuel Storage

I used to trail ride a CR500. I was the limiting factor in how far out we went, 1/2 tank, start heading back. So riding with 4 strokes, they'd get irritated having to head back early, so I started carrying a gallon of premix in a prestone coolant jug in a backpack. I was always pretty nervous about crashing before I put the gallon in, I'd put it in as early as I could, just to lower the crashing/flammability issue as soon as possible. Looking back, seems kind of stupid now.

What about a couple of rock straps and this to your passenger portion of your seat? Just don't crash.

Make sure to strap it down snugly. I lost a 5 gallon, full, somewhere on the AlCan because I used bin hues instead of tie down straps.

I bungee MSR's to my front fender and tail, (KTM 625 SMC). People giggle at the rallies, but it works.

I got this motogizmo, RM extender http://www.motogizmo.com/mototank.html. It's designed for a tail of a dirt bike/dualsport. I put in on my KTM SMR so i can get more milage out of my small 2.5 g tank

It holds one gal. It had a place to hook in a fuel line too. very nice. I hooked mine up to feed into my big tank. All that extra tubing and hard ware is extra that i got at a hardware store.

Its a horrible idea, but I have covered lots of miles of dirt roads with 2 liter soda bottles of gas strapped to my bike...

plan on emptying your container into your tank as soon as you can,

I use a Gal oil jug and lash it to my Camelback. Leave a cup worth of space in it and squezze the air out before you put the cap on. The heat and the shakin will make it expand.

Can you add some gearing for better MPG? A CS will cost about $20.

Currently running 14/47, which the PO put on. Been thinking of going down to 14/41, but wanted to change out all sprockets and chain when I did so. And that I don't have cash or time for this week.

I am hoping to hear back from DefyInertia about his used Clarke tank.

$170...no shipping b/c local...it's in good condition. I also have a very sturdy rear luggage rack for a DRZ that I would part with for $45 and has been used to strap a 2 gallon gas can (plus camping gear) to for many many miles...one ratchet strap.

EDIT - the tank, the rack, and the gas can

Yeah, sturdy

Not back,

I am in Puerto Williams Chile right now. May be coming back for a short visit in a month or so but then back down here to the boat to start sailing north, about another year before we are back living in SF. Next leg is Falklands, Brazil, Carribean, Boston.

Rotopax is good. You can also go and buy 4 MSR bottles from rei which is roughly 1 gallon...someone makes little holders for em too. Can't remember who...

I have a couple of those. Adventure Designs in Hayward has the little Wolfman bottle holsters - they'll strap on just about anywhere. I'm quite fond of mine.

Depending on when you're going, you could probably just borrow my bottles/holsters. Lemme know if you don't hear back on the Clark tank and need the bottles.

I actually did hear back on the tank and while it's a good price, I can't afford it right now. I'll be picking up a rack from him though! It'll fit my new pelican 1150 nicely.

What is it that you have, Surj? I'm considering asking to borrow them, but what to make sure I'll use them.

I won't be going far, I'll be within 3 hours of the bay, up north. Got a little girl due mid August and need to stay close incase the lady goes into labor. I'll be leaving Friday AM and returning Sunday late afternoon.

I've got two of the MSR bottles like Revnort linked, and two of the Wolfman bottle holsters. 60 ounces of fuel total, that you can strap on anywhere you can get straps around something. Should be simple as pie to strap 'em the rack above.

If you want to borrow 'em, let me know. I can bring 'em into the city with me during the day or you're also welcome to pick 'em up in Oakland in the evening.

I'd be into borrowing those for sure! Might order myself some up as well.

I live in Oakland and get home around 6pm. Where would be good for you to meet up?
