Engaging with security

This morning I went to the freaky boarded up supermarket.

As always, several private security guards on site. Lots of weird stuff and shoplifting in this market. In fact, at least one and possibly two shoplifters were identified while I was there. By the cashier.

Anyway, some of the security people were using bandanas as masks. With what I would consider crypto-racist symbols on them.

Is there a good way to engage these people? Maybe they are innocent of the secondary meanings and would like to know that they may want to stop displaying the symbols. Maybe not, and I'd like to know that too.

I chose to ignore it, being late to something and frankly thinking that any engagement strategry I'd try would escalate when I want things to de-escalate.

Suggestions?

Give them each a new bandanna that doesn't have that nonsense on it and thank them for doing what they do? Sometimes burying the b.s. with kindness is pretty effective even though it sounds like they all deserve a slap upside the head.

It's nice being an overweight male caucasion. They'd just say, "COME ON IN BROTHER".

symbols like runes or more obvious crap like iron crosses or maybe just proudboy type nonsense? some people are saying that the :flag is a hate symbol now so there is a pretty big range of interpreting in this department..

Punisher skulls?
OK finger symbol??
Hitler Nazi Eagle???
Thin Blue Line flag????

DO TELL. I'd reach out to their leadership at the security company as that may violate a uniform code.

I'd suggest buying your groceries and going home. Worry about your end of the street for a while.

Stay in your lane, dude. There are way too many other things going on. Anything short of a swastica is not worth the drama right now.

Abso--fucking-lutely NOT. The Runes of the Asatru are NOT the property of the nazis. They DO NOT GET THAT.

Thin blue line and some sort of skull--maybe a punisher skull, but obscured enough that I couldn't tell.

Maybe a violation of some rule or another, but tattling can be a form of escalation. Sometimes the right one for sure.

I'd rather engage with them and assume they are good. Isn't that one of the points points of a crypto-symbol: They can represent things which are fine or just "look cool". This can either be unknown to the person, or gives them plausible deniability. Which is OK by me in a conversation: I am not trying to trap anyone.

Perhaps the bring them a gift mask approach could work.

I don't have any plans to go back to that store for a while, so it probably won't matter by then. But might encounter this in the future.
