Look at those deep deep pavement gouges behind Hodgson. Who has been destroying the pavement at Laguna? I blame Gaytan, they should stop focusing on their skin pigment for once.
Wow, those are some deep gouges there. They don't look to me like they're in the direction for anything close to a decent line, but I don't really know. I'd like to think that anything that consistently drags hard parts enough to do that sort of damage to the track would be kicked out, but I guess not. It's not like it won't be easy to hear/see when that happened, I'm sure there were quite a few sparks from whatever hit it.

The gouges are from cars. Sportscars are very low and they will drag. At the historic races you could hear some cars scrap. Most of the time it is body work that doesn't do anything to the track but other times you could tell it was something more solid.

Is that some sort of heatshield or something on the gas tank (err airbox cover and gas tank I guess)? wonder what it's for.

It's to keep the fuel from heating/expanding and spilling out the overflow. They have to fill the tanks all the way to prevent running out.

Beautiful pictures...

I got some still shots from the grid and hot-pits:

Nice pics, why does Maladin always look like a goon. I like the picture of Zemke. I need a second career as a moto photographer just so I can get the photo pass. I hate shooting over the fence from a mile away.

Mladin is always intense...he's there to do a job and that's it. Zemke, Hodgson, Duhamel, the Bostroms and DiSalvo are some of the nicest guys in the paddock.

I like the picture of Zemke.
He's a super down-to-earth guy. A few years ago, we assisted them when Duhamel, Zemke and American Honda were testing at Buttonwillow and they are as nice as can be. We put them to work signing shirts and such...ha, ha:

You do very, very, very well from shooting behind the fence. My regular photographer couldn't make it out to Laguna Seca last weekend but during MotoGP, he got some really nice angles on the action shots from all over the track. I'm not that good with the camera (I just try to focus on the writing) so I normally cover the grid and paddock shots. Here're some other pictures I took during MotoGP:

You definitely need to get a Media Pass.

Speaking of "end of an era", I spoke to some of the riders who were joking around that after that weekend, most of them are going to be unemployed. Some of the factory guys said their contracts with the manufacturers were up and they don't know what they'll be doing next season with the changes.
