Dumbest thing you did while out riding

Me?

Somehow I managed to put the kickstand on my left boot while I was still astride the bike. How I didn't break a toe, I guess I owe it to my Sidi boot.

And was I grateful that the rider who came to my rescue didn't laugh at me.

You?

Pulling up on the track early in the morning with a open trailer.
The first strap I released was the wrong one and the bike went down and landed upside down... boy that was embarrassing...

rookie rider, 1985. I pulled up to my girlfriends house on a hot summer day after the asphalt had just been laid. Put the kickstand down, turned and walked away as the bike sunk into the asphalt before falling completely over. First tank dent of many to come.

Group ride, checking out a chick, ran off the road. I was ready to just throw it down but luckily found traction again and made it back onto the road. Sarcastic clapping from the group.

lets say 1985. Pretty new to riding, sitting at stop light on my 83 XT550 and pretty girl pulls up next to me. Before helmets were mandatory and before I was smart enough to wear one no matter what the law was. Look over say "hi" and lift my foot to put on footpeg and land it on the gear shifter and lunge forward falling on my ass. SPECTACULAR... and so smooth. :)

Tried to pass a 3-car bogey early on Mines Road, hoping to get ahead of the traffic. The lead pickup slowed and moved right in the lane, seemingly inviting me to pass, and then as I started to, made an unsignalled left turn into a driveway. It was a dumb pass that I shouldn't have attempted, but it was the last ride of the year and I wanted to get out on open road.

Let's say that Mines Road does not have a very nice flavor.

Was at Laguna for the GP races. Saturday night we were cruising all the mayhem on the infield , the wife and I on my XL600R.
Decided to impress the party goers, and pulled a wheelie up the hill. Promptly dumping my wife on her ass.
She was not amused...

I'm sure I'm not alone in having got off my bike withOUT the kickstand and wondering what that crashing sound was behind me as I was walking away.

First rookie mistake was forgetting to remove my front brake lock. Tried pulling out from a parking spot and promptly fell to the ground.

Second mistake was backing out from a driveway while on the bike, stopping to "ease" it down the sidewalk bump where I couldn't reach the ground with my feet and promptly fell to the ground.

Are we having fun yet?
For me it was peering into the mirror to make sure the R1200LT rider behind me at the light wasn’t a cop, and then took off hard to show my fellow rider how fast my bike was, only to be pulled over by the R1200LT rider who turned out to be a cop. (I guess the blue and red LEDs don’t show color until they’re turned on.)

Of course, every crash and drop was dumb as hell, but I don't feel like talking about those.

I recently started the Dizzer while in gear... bike tried to run away and I very awkwardly and clumsily caught it...

Picked up a used bike, saw the brake lines looked a bit tired, so ordered a new set, but figured it'd be fine to ride for a few days until the new lines arrived.

They failed on me one night and I ended up blowing a red-light with my rear tire locked up. Lucky it was a fairly quiet intersection.

Way too many things to choose from to pick the dumbest. :laughing

After having my 1997 Ducati Monster serviced at the dealer in Livermore, I picked it up with the old F-150 that I owned. We used to load dirt bikes into it using a 2x12 board with a couple of 2x4's screwed to the sides for stiffness and to keep the wheels in line. Decided to ride the Monster up into the truck.

I made it, but half way up I was having a strong desire to dab a foot. Gave it more throttle instead and then resolved to never do that again with a street bike.

Later on while attempting to load a YZ-250 into that truck on the same ramp, I hit it a little bit sideways and the ramp moved such that the front wheel was on the tailgate of the truck and the rear wheel was still on the ground, next to the ramp. After that one, I quit riding bikes into the truck for good.

I need a little time with this one.
There are so many and in different moto modes.

Another one.
Was at Carnigie, doing road jumps in the front part. Approached a jump I hadn't done yet, but really easy, just maintain throttle and I would clear easily.
Well, as you can guess, lifted off and immediately chickened out and chopped the gas. Went straight into the road cut, abrupt stop. Tore the muscles off one of my shoulder blades. Spent the rest of the afternoon laying in my truck sucking on Ibuprofin.

Within the first six months of owning my Weestrom I dropped it twice: Once in a Wendys parking lot that was fading away from me. I throw my leg over the bike and quickly realize my foot is not touching, not touching, not touching....until it does and it is too late for me and the Wee. Second one was in my driveway when I thought the kickstand was at a good angle. Bike is running to warm up and then bike is taking a nap.

Second bike I dropped stupidly was my FJR. For some insane reason I thought I could get off the bike without putting the kickstand down so I could expedite moving it in my garage. NOPE. I was wrong and down it went.

I dropped my cousin bike, we took her out of the truck and she was parked outside. I climbed on her to get a feel and my cousin said to get her inside as I was walking with her the kick stand hit something and when I tried to park the kick stand closed and.. bike on the ground.

The other stupid thing was when I was riding back home on a saturday morning, it was 42ºc (107º in freedom units), I was wearing all my gear except gloves. In a intersection a bus passed the red light and I had to swerve to no crash into it as I swerve I was able to recover and continue on, the problem was there was a left turn coming up and I found myself on the dirty part of the road, as I started to turn my front wheel slipped and I fell. Only my hands were fucked up.

I was riding in a group with my first bike, it was a 125cc and it was a smallish trip, I was following a good rider and he had a lot more experience then I had and was on a Ninja 250cc. In a right turn I saw he's angle and turn line and I tried to do the same, problem was, it was too fast for me.. luckily there was no one in the left lane.

Ooh, I did that one. The gentlest, slowest crash ever. I basically just Bodyguarded the bike to the ground once my left foot touched, so it only ended up with a small mark on the bar end.

Very similar to the "I forgot to unclip" bicycle crash. Fortunately, I've only had to do those once apiece.

Many many moons ago Whammy tried to start his bike in gear with the kickstand down. Lights no start, flipped the key again lights... no start.
Did this for 5 minutes before my own light clicked on.
Hey meathead it wont start in gear.
The lack of fuel pump priming should of told me that.
